Aaron Kong, Zandra Aziela bags Open titles

23rd February, S.Prai: SUKMA 2002 Masters Gold medalists, Aaron Kong of Penang and Zandra Aziela of Selangor added another feather to their cap as they captured the Boy's Open and Girl's Open titles respectively at the 1st leg of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit at Mega Lanes, Seberang Prai today.

After leading the 1st block of 8 games yesterday, both Aaron and Zandra continued their fine run in the round-robin matches this morning. In the first stepladder match, Sharon Koh (SEL, 4th-seed) defeated Esther Cheah (SEL, 3rd-seed) and Noor Diana Azis (SSBP, 2nd-seed) with a 222-167-155 margin to earn a title shot with Zandra in the Girl's Open division. It was a close tussle between Zandra and Sharon till frame 7th where Zandra downed a turkey to shut out Sharon for the Girl's Open title.

In the Boys Open division, a keen contest was witnessed till the last frame where Aaron Kong (PEN, 2nd-seed) had to dig into his reserves to pip Aiman Kelana (SEL, 4th-seed)) and Adrian Ang (PEN, 3rd-seed) with a 206-204-166 scoreline.

As Aaron set up his title match with leader, Eric Ang (PEN, top-seed), both bowlers entertained the capacity crowd with good bowling resulting in Aaron Kong winning the game 223-182, forcing a sudden-death game to decide the winner. In the decider, Aaron was in his element, reeling off six consecutive strikes matched only with a double, a spare and a four-in-a-row by Eric Ang. After two spares, Aaron Kong fired a turkey home to take the Boy's Open title with a high score of 257-222.

Amalyna Kelana, Wan Muhd Fauzwan captures Graded titles

23rd February, S.Prai: Quarter finals leaders, Amalyna Kelana of Selangor and Wan Muhd Fauzwan of Johor captured the Boy's and Girl's Graded titles of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit first leg at Megalanes, Seberang Prai.

Amalyna Kelana of Megalanes, Shah Alam was given a run of her money when Nur Eliza Ezanee (KEL, 2nd-seed) took the first game on 194-176 margin. However, in the sudden-death roll-off, Amalyna regained her composure to start off with a turkey that shook the confidence of her opponent. Amalyna lifted her first title with a 191-139 margin. Nadya Izzati Azman (KED, 3rd-seed) and Fatin Syazliana (PEN, 4th-seed) who finished 3rd and 4th respectively lost the first stepladder match to Nur Eliza Ezanee 153-133-184.


Winners of the Girl's Graded division

In the Boys' Graded division, burly Johor's Wan Muhd Fauzwan who led in all the earlier rounds, tasted his maiden win when he disposed off a strong challenge from team-mate, Muhamad Nur Aiman with a hard fought 193-191 victory in the final setpladder match for the title.

In the first stepladder match, Nur Aiman (JOH, 2nd-seed) had earlier narrowly defeated Kenson Low (MSN, 3rd-seed) and Kelvin Tan (PEN, 4th-seed)) with a 196-191-139 margin.

Winners of the Boy's Graded division
Zandra Aziela, Eric Ang leads Open division quarter finals

22nd February, S.Prai: Selangor's Zandra Aziela was in top form to lead the Girl's Open division quarter finals of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit first leg at Megalanes, Seberang Prai while Eric Ang from Penang topped the Boy's division.

The SUKMA 2002 Masters Gold medalist scorched the Mega Lanes in Seberang Prai to score 1105 over the six-games quarter finals for a grand total of 2706 pinfalls. She was 107 pins clear of second-placed Noor Diana Azis from SSBP with a score of 2599. Third place went to Selangor's Hee Lar Foong with 2532 pinfalls.

Meanwhile, in the Boy's division, there was a keen tussle for the lead between Stage 1 leader Aaron Kong and Eric Ang. It was Eric who bowled more consistently to take over the lead with a total of 2950 but only 2 pins ahead of Aaron Kong on 2848.

The top three positions were dominated by the Penang bowlers when Adrian Ang came in third with 2791. The top 8 Boys and Girls qualified for tomorrow's Round-robin finals. At the end of the finals, the top 4 from each division will make the cut for the stepladder grand finals.

Wan Muhd Fauzwan, Amalyna Kelana tops Graded division quarter finals

22nd February, S.Prai: Johor's Wan Muhd Fauzwan who lead in Stage 1 continue to lead the Boy's Graded division quarter finals of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit first leg at Megalanes, Seberang Prai while Amalyna Kelana from Selangor lead the Girl's Graded division.

Wan Muhd started the quarter finals with almost 50 pins cushion from the lead he picked in Stage 1 and he accumulated 1208 over the 6-games for a total of 2810 pinfalls. He stretched the lead to 121 pins from Selangor's Abdul Hadi Bin Haris on 2689. Muhammad Nur Aiman, also from Johor finished third with 2682, just 7 pins away.

Meanwhile, in the Girl's division, Selangor's Amalyna Kelana took over the lead from Stage 1 leader, Fatin Syazliana with a total of 2491. Hot on her heels was Penang's Saw Bee Gek just 6 pins away in second while Kelantan's Nur Eliza Ezanee finished third with 2451.

Fatin Syazliana dropped to fourth with 2427. The top 8 Boys and Girls qualified for tomorrow's Round-robin finals. At the end of the finals, the top 4 from each division will make the cut for the stepladder grand finals.

Aaron Kong, Zandra Aziela leads Open division Stage 1

21st February, S.Prai: Local boy, Aaron Kong lead the field of Boy's Open division Stage 1 rounds of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit first leg at Megalanes, Seberang Prai while Zandra Aziela from Selangor topped the Girl's division.

The SUKMA 2002 Masters Gold medalist had lines of 193, 235, 196, 224, 193, 171, 232 and 213 to amassed 1657 to lead the Stage 1 by only a narrow margin of 4 pins. Piala Remaja 2003 first leg champion, Eric Ang of Penang was second with 1653 while third spot went to Perak's Loh Joon Kit who score 1588 pinfalls.

In the Girl's division, Selangor's Zandra Aziela was a comfortable leader when she scored 1601 pinfalls for the lead. In second position was Noor Diana Azis from SSBP with a score of 1488 while 27th National Championship Ladies Graded Masters champion, Yap Pui Yee of Kuala Lumpur finished third with 1469.

The top 16 Boys and top 12 Girls qualified for tomorrow's quarter finals. At the end of the quater finals, the top 8 from each division will make the cut for the round-robin finals.

Fatin Syazliana, Wan Muhd Fauzwan tops Graded division Stage 1

21st February, S.Prai: Fatin Syazliana from Penang topped the Girl's Graded division Stage 1 rounds of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit first leg at Megalanes, Seberang Prai while Wan Muhd Fauzwan from Johor topped the Boy's Graded division.

The small-built Fatin bowled well to lead the field of 43 girls graded bowlers with a score of 1249. Five pins behind Fatin was Lee Sok Teng from Penang with a score of 1244 in second. Another three pins away in third spot was Wong Jia Min from Perak on 1241.

In the Boy's division, Johor's Wan Muhd Fauzwan lead the field of 72 bowlers with a score of 1602 averaging 200.25. Just three pins away in second place was Muhammad Nur Aiman with 1599 while a distant third came Abdul Hadi Bin Haris with 1554.

The top 48 Boys and top 28 Girls qualified for tomorrow's quarter finals. At the end of the quater finals, the top 8 from each division will make the cut for the round-robin finals.
