Selangor youths win back-to-back titles in fourth leg |
18th May, Kuantan: Selangor youths Zaid Izlan, Siti Safiyah Amirah won back-to-back titles in the Boy's Open and Girls Graded while local boy, Fabian Lai took the Boy's Graded division of the fourth leg SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit which ended today at Megalanes Kuantan.
Zaid came back from a 174-237 loss in the first game of the final stepladder match to overcome Penang's Eric Ang 257-160 to win his second consecutive title. Zaid, who had last month won the Boy's Open title at the Selangor/KL leg at Pyramid Megalanes, finished top of the division after the semifinals with a score of 4583.
Eric, the 6th Asian Schools Team Gold medalist who was 2nd-seed, had earlier defeated 3rd-seed Johan Jamaludin of Selangor and 4th-seed Tan Hock Wei from Melaka 236-208-166. Johan took third spot while Tan finished fourth. |

In the Girl's Open division, 4th-seed Noor Diana Azis of SSBP was awesome when she forced top-seed Christyn Chew from Selangor into the sudden-death final game of the stepladder finals after winning the first game 222-190. Noor Diana eventually claimed her first title in top flight when she defeated Christyn in the second game 202-191. Noor Diana had earlier won the first stepladder match with a score of 214 against 3rd-seed June Lim Wai Jun (176) of Pahang and 2nd-seed Zandra Aziela (179) from Selangor.

Meanwhile in the Girl's Graded division, Selangor's Siti Safiyah Amirah won her second consecutive title when she proved too good for her opponent, Wan Nur Atiqqa of Johor winning 219-201.
Siti Safiyah from SMK USJ 13, Subang Jaya continued her fine form after winning the Girls' Under-15 Singles, Doubles, All-Events and Team Gold and a Bronze in the Masters in the Selangor Schools Championship just last week on top of capturing the Junior Circuit Selangor/KL leg last month.
Wan Nur settled for second while Nadya Izzati Azman from Kedah finished third and Zatil Iman of Selangor took fourth spot. |

In the Boy's Graded division, top-seed and local boy, Fabian Lai almost lost the title after he was forced into a sudden-death roll-off when he lost the first game of the stepladder finals. Kevin Ng from Selangor tied the game with Fabian on 200 to move into the 9th and 10th frame roll-off where Kevin scored 49 to Fabian's 40. But in the final crunch, the local crowd gave Fabian the strong support for him to overcome Kevin 2004-169 for a well deserved win.
Kevin finished second while Selangor's Abdul Hadi Harris and Mohd Fazil Arief took third and fourth spots respectively. The next leg will be stopping in Melaka on the 6 - 8 June, 2003.

| Eric Ang, Christyn Chew tops Open quarter finals |
17th May, Kuantan: Stage 1 leader, Eric Ang from Penang held on to his lead of the Boy's Open in the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit Pahang leg at Megalanes Kuantan after the end of the quarter finals while Selangor's Christyn Chew was a runaway leader in the Girl's Open division.
The 6th Asian Schools Team Gold medalist scored a lowly 1093 and totalled 2807 to hang on to his slender lead of 8 pins from a strong finishing of Tan Hock Wei of Melaka. Tan's score of 1192 gave him a total of 2799 and just one pin ahead of Selangor's Johan Jamaludin om 2798.

In the Girl's division, overnight leader and Penang/Kedah leg champion, Christyn Chew continued her domination by leading the field of 8 bowlers into the semifinals with a total score of 2828. Seventy-two pins away in second came Zandra Aziela from Selangor with 2756 while local lass, June Lim Wai Jun finished third with 2636. The top 8 Boy's and Girl's Open division bowlers will continue in tomorrow's Round-Robin semifinals.

| Fabian Lai, Siti Safiyah leads into Graded semi-finals |
17th May, Kuantan: Local boy, Fabian Lai continued his comfortable lead in the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit Pahang leg at Megalanes Kuantan into the semi-finals while Selangor's Siti Safiyah was also a comfortable leader in the Girl's Graded division.
The overnight leader scored a 1186 and totalled 2829 for a comanding lead of 105 pins. Second was Mohd Fahd Hazali who scored a total of 2724. Another 48 pins away came Muhamad Rifdi Halim from Kedah in third place with 2675. Local boy, Radin Mohd Fadli did well to take fourth spot with 2659.
In the Girls Graded division, Siti Safiyah Amirah continued her fine form to top quarter finals and leading into the Round-Robin semifinals. She scored 1,048 for a total 2,678 over the two blocks and a comfortable 112 pins ahead. |

Second was Johor's Wan Nur Atiqqa with a score of 2566. A further 78 pins away came Zatil Iman from Selangor who scored 2488. The top 8 Boy's and Girl's Graded division will continue in tomorrow's Round-Robin semifinals.

Christyn Chew, Eric Ang leads Girl's and Boy's Open Stage 1 |
16th May, Kuantan: Selangor's Christyn Chew and Penang's Eric Ang lead the Girl's and Boy's Open Stage 1 rounds comfortably in the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit Pahang leg at Megalanes Kuantan this evening.
The 15 year-old Christyn and winner of the second leg in Ipoh downed 201, 203, 182, 209, 173, 205, 203 and 226 to total 1,602 for a 200.25 average in her Stage 1 8-games block this evening. She took a 69 pins margin ahead of Zandra Aziela. Zandra, twice winner of the first and third leg this year scored 1533 and in second spot while Noor Diana Azis bowling for SSBP finished a further 70 pins in third with 1463.
Meanwhile, 6th Asian Schools Team Gold medalist, Eric Ang from Penang topped the Boy's Open Stage 1 with a score of 1714 and 24 pins ahead despite starting poorly with 170 and 154 in his first two games. |

Eric got going from the third game with a 269 followed by 187, 235, 220, 226 and rounding off with a 253 in his 8th game. Third leg champion, Zaid Izlan from Selangor followed closely just 24 pins away in second with 1690. A further 83 pins away came Tan Hock Wei from Melaka who scored 1607. Ong Boon Hock, also from Melaka did well to finish fourth with 1599.
The top 16 Boy's Open and top 12 Girl's Open have qualified for the quarter finals tomorrow. At the end of the quarter finals the top 8 from each category will make the cut for the semifinals.

| Siti Safiyah, Fabian Lai tops Girl's and Boy's Graded Stage 1 |
16th May, Kuantan: Selangor's Siti Safiyah Amirah and Perak's Fabian Lai topped the Girl's and Boy's Graded Stage 1 rounds comfortably in the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit Pahang leg at Megalanes Kuantan this afternoon.
The 15 year-old SMK USJ 13, Subang student was a class of her own when she downed 223, 223, 200, 229, 191, 201, 172 and 191 for a total of 1,630 and 203.75 average.
The winner of the third Selangor/KL leg last month, Siti Safiyah is a distant 153 pins ahead of her nearest challenger, Wan Nur Atiqqa of Johor who scored 1507 in her 8-games Stage 1. Third was Kedah's Nadya Izzati Azman, a further 131 pins from Wan Nur. Noorhanizah Abu Bakar from Kuala Lumpur did well to finish fourth with 1355. |

Meanwhile local boy, Fabian Lai topped the Boy's Graded Stage 1 with a score of 1643 and an impressive 205.37 average. The winner of the second leg in Ipoh in March was 67 pins ahead of second-place Haziq Khalid from Johor who downed 1576. Mohd Fahd of Kuala Lumpur came in third with a score of 1562 followed by another local boy, Radin Mohd Fadli just 10 pins further on 1552.
The top 48 Boy's Graded and top 28 Girl's Graded bowlers have qualified for the quarter finals which will be played tomorrow while the Open division will start their Stage 1 in the afternoon.
