Back-to-back titles for Penang youth

1st May, Kuantan: Adrian Charles Dragon of Penang scored back-to-back titles as the National youth triumphed in the Boy's Open division of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit Pahang leg Sunday evening at Megalanes Kuantan while Kuala Lumpur's Noor Hanizah took the Girl's Open crown.

Fresh from winning the Kuala Lumpur leg two weeks ago, the 18 year-old Dragon defeated fourth-seed and challenger, Syed Muzzafar of Pahang, 204-201 to win his second consecutive Boy's Open title.

Since moving back to Penang after completing his Pre-U at the Bukit Jalil Sports Schoolin Kuala Lumpur has found his form back and look on track for more titles to come.


Second consecutive title for Dragon

The Thailand Open-bound champiom had also led all his preliminary rounds all the way to this afternoon's round-robin semifinals for which he topped the field with a total of 4348 to finish as top-seed for the stepladder finals.

Second leg champion, Syed Muzzafar of Pahang, who did well after finishing fourth in the earlier 8-games matchplay, settled for second despite defeating second-seed, Fahmi Bahri of Johor and Rodson Tong of Pahang, 216-138-178. Fahmi and Tong ended up third and fourth respectively.


Noor Hanizah of Kuala Lumpur, had to work hard for the win after she lost the first match 173-180 to third leg champion and challenger, Jerusha Chan of Pahang. But the top-seed bounched back to snatch the title with 182-176 in the decider.

Chan, who finished third in the matchplay semifinals, had earlier knocked out second-seed, Nor Atteya Zainal Abidin of Perak and quarterfinal leader, Siti Shazwani of Johor, 188-160-164 before loosing the crucial match to the champion. Nur Atteya dropped to third after the stepladder while Siti Shazwani remianed fourth.

In the Boy's Graded division, top-seed, Amirul Dinie Ismadi captured his first-ever title when he defeated KL leg champion, Shahril Hafiz of Pyramid Youth, 175-169 in the final stepladder match.

Shahril, who finished fourth in the round-robin semifinals, settled for second despite defeating two local youths, Jonathan Chan Tian Sheng and Mohd Hanif Mohd Bakri, 185-160-164.

The Girl's Graded title went to Pyramid Youth team member from Selangor, Yap Wi Yin after winning the deciding stepladder match, 196-162. Yap had lost the first match to challenger, Farah Izzazaya Bte Mohd Fariq of Pahang, 167-175 before bounching back to win the final match and the title.

Farah, who finished third at the end of the round-robin semifinals, settled for second. The runner-up had earlier ousted second leg champion, Bettina Tan of Pyramid Youth and fourth-seed, Charmaine Ho of MSN/KUL, 180-164-136.

The SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit will move to Ampang Superbowl in Johor Bahru for its fifth leg from 22nd - 24th May before returning to Selangor for its sixth leg at Pyramid Megalanes from 3rd - 5th June, 2005.

Johor and Penang youths grab lead

30th April, Kuantan: Siti Shazwani of Johor and last leg champion, Adrian Charles Dragon of Penang grabbed the lead of Girl's and Boy's Open division in the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit Pahang leg quarterfinals Saturday evening.

Siti Shazwani, who led 8-games Stage 1 this morning by 1 pin, continued her fine form to stretch the lead in the Girl's Open division after the 6-games quarterfinal was completed. The 2004 Johor leg runner-up posted 1074 to add to her Stage 1 score of 1430 to total 2504.

National youth Nor Atteya Zainal Abidin of Perak, who is selected to represent Malaysia in the Thailand Open next week after the National Youth roll-off, moved up one notch to trail Shazwani by 16 pins with 2488.

Kuala Lumpur's Noor Hanizah dropped one spot to third with 2461 ahead of Nor Amilia Mohd Noor of Selangor in fourth with 2445. last leg champion, Jerusha Chan (PAH-2419), Lina Marissa Zamri (KED-2386), Wan Nur Atiqqa (JOH-2381) and Ili Syazana (SEL-2354) made the cut for Sunday's round-robin semifinals from fifth to eighth respectively.


KL Leg champion, Adrian Charles Dragon of Penang captialised on his current form and continued to top the boy's division with a 14-game total of 2948 over Stage 1 and the quarterfinals this morning.

National youth, Rodson Tong of Pahang made the biggest jump from sixth in this morning's Stage 1 to finished second with 2755. Malaysia's representative in the Thailand Open next week, Fahmi Bahri of Johor took third position with 2729 followed by Tengku Afnan of Kedah in fourth with 2717.

Syed Muzzafar (PAH-2711), Afiq Rifqi (JOH-2694), Syahereza Fajrin (SEL-2690) and Fariz Izwan (PRK-2642) completed the top 8 for Sunday's round-robin semifinals from fifth to eighth positions.

The top 6 at the end of Sunday's semifinals will make the cut for the stepladder finals to determine the champion of the Pahang leg.

Local youths dominate Boy's Graded quarterfinals

30th April, Kuantan: Stage 1 leader, Jonathan Chan and Mohd Hanif Mohd Bakri dominated the Boy's Graded quarterfinals of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit fourth leg finishing 1-2 while Cheryl Cheong took over pole in the Girl's Graded division.

Chan, 14, who could not fine the form when he competed in the 8th Asian Schools championship in Jakarta last month, continued from strength to strength to lead the Boy's Graded division at the end of the 14-game Stage 1 and quarterfinals this morning with 2828.

Mohd Hanif Mohd Bakri gave Pahang youths a 1-2 finish when he took second spot with 2731 while KL leg champion, Shahril Hafiz of Pyramid Youth moved up 3 places from sixth to take up third spot with 2650. Last leg runner-up, Abdul Muhaimin Khairuddin of Perak finished fourth with 2626.

Mohd Alif B. Molok (JOH-2597), Amirul Dinie Ismadi (PRK-2586), Ng Wee Kiat (MEL-2577) and Equine Lam (PRK-2569) survived to move into Sunday's round-robin semifinals in fifth to eighth positions respectively.


KL Leg champion, Cheryl Cheong continued her relentless pursuit to win back-to-back titles after the MSN/KUL team member took over the lead with a total of 2506 from Saturday's Stage 1 leader Yap Wi Yin. Two time runner-up in the first two legs, Charmaine Ho of MSN/KUL took second spot with 2480.

Farah Izzazaya of Pahang did well on home ground to take third spot with 2465 ahead of Stage 1 leader, Yap Wi Yin of Pyramid Youth in fourth place with 2457.

The top 8 Girl's Graded will contest Sunday's round-robin matchplay semifinals before determining the champion.

Local Youth shines on home ground

29th April, Kuantan: Local youth, Jonathan Chan topped the Boy's Graded STage 1 of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit fourth leg while Yap Wi Yin of Pyramid Youth took pole in the Girl's Graded division.

Chan, 14, who represented Malaysia in the 8th Asian Schools in Jakarta early this month, ran away with the lead in the Boy's Graded division with an 8-game block of 1652. Trailing the leader by 107 pins in second was Mohd Hanif Mohd Bakri also of Pahang with 1545 while third leg second runner-up, Abdul Muhaimin Khairuddin of Perak finished third with 1533.

Amirul Dinie Ismadi of Perak and Shahril Hafiz of Pyramid Youth made up the top 5 in fourth and fifth spots with 1527 and 1483 respectively.

Pyramid Youth's Yap Wi Yin snatched pole position after posting 1445 in the Girl's Graded division. Yap had lines of 174, 189, 236, 177, 159, 173, 159 and 178 in the 8-game Stage 1 at Megalanes Kuatan this evening.

Third leg champion, Cheryl Cheong finished second just 7 pins adrift with 1438 ahead of team-mate, Bettina Tan in third spot with 1417. Local youth, Farah Izzazaya M. Fariq did well to stay with the leaders finishing fourth with 1393 followed by Syaidatul Afifah of Perak came in fifth with 1382.

The top 28 Girls and top 48 Boys made the cut for the another 6 games in quarterfinals at the end of which the top 8 will proceed to the round-robin finals on Sunday, 1st May. The Girl's and Boy's Open will take on the lanes tomorrow morning (30th April) for their 8-games Stage 1.
