Second title for Perak and SSBP youth

27th May, Ipoh: Perak's Syaidatul Afifah Bte Badrul Hamidi and Fahmi Bahri B Sulaiman of SSBP, Johor bagged their second title of the year when the duo triumphed in the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit Perak leg at Ampang Superbowl, Ipoh Parade Sunday evening.

Syaidatul Afifah, who led all the way from Stage 1 on Friday and topped the round-robin semifinals, defeated second leg champion and national youth, Fatin Syazliana of Penang, 203-168 to win her second circuit title in the Girl's Open division.

The 15-year-old member of the Sukan Teras Perak team, amassed a total of 4287 pinfalls over 8 games in Stage 1, 6 games in the quarterfinals and won 6 out of the 8 games round-robin matchplay semifinals to finish as top-seed.

Second leg champion and runner-up, Fatin Syazliana, who finished as second-seed with 4034, knocked out third-seed, Tengku Emanina Bte Tengku Zahri of Kedah and fourth-seed, Nicole Teong of Kuala Lumpur, 302-164-154 in the first stepladder match before going down to the champion.

The remaining four who made the semifinals were ex-national, Nor Atteya Zainal Abidin of Perak (3968), Jerusha Chan of Pahang (3914), Low Xin Pin of Kuala Lumpur (3871) and Nazrinnah Bte Mohd Kamil of Perak (3793) finishing from fifth to eighth respectively.


In the Boy's Open division, SSBP Johor's Fahmi Bahri B Sulaiman also captured his second title this year after he edged challenger, Noo Afizal Azizan, 182-160 in the stepladder finals. Fahmi went into the finals when he topped the earlier round-robin semifinals with 4482.

Afizal, who finished as fourth-seed, outclassed second-seed, Syimir Abdul Razak of Pyramid Youth, and third-seed, Muhammad Saman Mohd Shuib of Pahang, 222-179-177 in the first match but could not repeat the form he displayed when matched with Fahmi.

Kuala Lumpur's Chang Sean Der (4306), Perak's Equine Lam (4107), Pahang's Jonathan Chan (4087) and Perak's Mohd Amsyar B Zakaria (4018) finished fourth to eighth in the earlier round-robin semifinals.

Meanwhile, Perak's Teh Lit Qing beat challenger and fourth-seed, Mohd Amin B Abdul Razak of Perak, 195-162 to win his first Boy's Under-16 title. Teh had topped the round-robin semifinals with a total of 4392 to move into the stepladder finals.

Mohd Amin earned a crack at the title after he knocked out second-seed, Kua Jian Wen of Pyramid Youth and Birhakim Rozaimee of Kuala Lumpur, 223-190-207 in the first match.

In the Girl's Under-16 division, Nursyamimi Bte Supardi of Perak, finally landed a victory when the fourth-seed, defeated top-seed, Maisarah Bte Rozali, 186-140 to claim her maiden title. The champion had earlier knocked out second-seed, Nur Liyana Bte Abdul Halim of Johor and last leg champion, Hee Kar Yen of Pramid Youth, 193-158-168 in the first match.

The next leg will be held at the new 48-lane Ampang Superbowl at Berjaya Times Square on June 15-17.
