Selangor wins three out of four titles in GP Finals


24th August, P.Jaya: Johan Jamalufin, Christyn Chew and Siti Safiyah took three of the four titles for Selangor in the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit GP Finals while Sarawak's Edward Teo won the Boy's Graded crown at Pyramid Megalanes this evening.



It was a sweet win for Johan Jamaludin after only managing to finished second in the 3rd leg in Selangor and third in the 4th leg in Kuantan. The top-seed started the final stepladder match nervously and loosing the first game to Sabah's Sufri Hassan 179-193 but came back strongly after settling down well to take the Boy's Open title winning the sudden-death game 225-155. Second-seed, Sufri settled for second despite winning the first stepladder match 215 to knock off 3rd-seed Adrian Ang (206) from Penang and 4th-seed Zaid Izlan (179) from Selangor.

First round leader and top-seed, Christyn Chew of Selangor, however had an easier passage to winning the Girl's Open crown after defeating her challenger Charlotte Sak 181-144 in one game. The win was Christyn's best season in the Junior Circuit this year after capturing three titles and finished second once.

Charlotte, who lead the the round-robin finals briefly to qualify for the stepladder finals in third was happy to have made up one spot as runner-up after winning the first match defeating 2nd-seed Elaine Lam (193) from Perak and 4th-seed Nur Syakirah Yeoh (189) from Kedah with a score of 195.


Meanwhile, the overall leader in first round and the round-robin finals, Siti Safiyah Amirah gave her challenger no chance with a convincing win in the final stepladder match against Zatil Iman 200-161. The 14 year-old and winner of three legs this year, added another trophy to her collection picking up the GP Finals Girl's Graded title today.

Second-seed, Zatil Iman of Selangor finished runner-up despite winning the first match against 3rd-seed Nadya Izzati (187) from Kedah and Amalyna Kelana (178) from Selangor with a strong 222 game.

Edward Teo from Sarawak was the only bowler to prevent Selangor a clean sweep of all the titles contested. Edward triumphed in the Boy's Graded division when he ousted Johor's Wan Muhd Fauzwan 188-170 in the final stepladder match.

Wan Muhd Fauzwan was contented with second especially after finishing only 4th in the round-robin finals and winning the first match with 221 to knock out 2nd-seed Kenson Low (182) of Kuala Lumpur and 3rd-seed Kevin Ng (153) of Selangor.

Nestle (Milo) Products' Marketing and Sponsorship Manager, Dato Dina Rizal was on hand to present the winning trophies to the winners witness by MTBC and WTBA President, Dato Dr P.S. Nathan and MTBC secretary general, Mr Sidney Tung.

Adrian Ang, Siti Safiyah maintains lead into next round


23rd August, P.Jaya: First block leaders, Adrian Ang and Siti Safiyah Amirah maintained their lead in the Boy's and Gril's Open division to qualify for next round of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit GP Finals at Pyramid Megalanes.



Adrian, who led the first block of 6 games of the Boy's Open division early this afternoon with a score of 1352 stretched his lead with 1209 in the second block bringing his total to 2561 to qualify for the round-robin finals tomorrow. Selangor's Johan Jamaludin settled for second with a total score of 2465 while Sufri Hassan from Sabah improved one spot to 3rd with 2448.

Top-seed Zaid Izlan was the biggest mover from 8th to 4th after a superb 1349 in the second block for a total of 2447.

In the Girl's Open, Selangor's Charlotte Sak snatched the lead from first block leader, Christyn Chew with a total of 2327. Christyn settled for second just 16 pins behind Charlotte on 2309 while Sabah's Trish Khoo move up one spot to 3rd with 2299.



Adrian, Kevin, Siti Safiyah and Charlotte leads into next round


Selangor girls dominated the Girl's Graded division occupying the top three spots. Winner of three legs this year and first block leader of the Girl's Graded division, Siti Safiyah Amirah maintained her lead to move into the next round with another fine second block for a total of 2462. Selangor's Zatil Iman settled for second spot on a total score of 2288 with Amalyna Kelana in 3rd with 2236.

The lead also changed hands in the Boy's Graded division when Selangor's Kevin Ng finished top with a total of 2409. Kuala Lumpur's Mohd Fahd Hazali did well to move up from 8th to 3rd with a superb 1278 in the second block and a total of 2337.

The The top 8 from each category made the cut for tomorrow's Round-robin finals over 8 games and the top 4 will proceed to the stepladder Grand Finals to determine this year's GP Finals champions.

Penang youth a runaway leader in round 1


23rd August, P.Jaya: Penang's 15 year-old Adrian Ang was a runaway leader scoring 1352 after round 1 of the Boy's Open division in the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit GP Finals was completed at Pyramid Megalanes this afternoon.



Adrian, who took the last two legs of this year's Junior Circuit after struggling in the beginning of the year, continued his fine form to record lines of 194, 258, 221, 227, 210 and 242 for a total of 1325 pinfalls. Adrian was the only bowler so far breaking the 1300-mark.

Adrian's nearest challenger was Selangor's Johan Jamaludin who came finished second with 1248 while third place went to Perak's Eric Lim on 1172.

The lead of the Boy's Graded division was however, more keenly contested as Pahang's Fabian Lai held on to a slim lead with a score of 1218, just 28 pins ahead of Kevin Ng from Selangor in second. Kevin downed 1190 to stay ahead of Abdul Muhaimin on 1166.

The boys will continue their second block of 6 games immediately after lane maintenance. At the end of the 12 games Round 1, the top 8 from each category will make the cut for Sunday's Round-robin finals.

Selangor favourites top Girls first round


23rd August, P.Jaya: Selangor's favourites, Christyn Chew and Sist Safiyah Amirah topped the first block of Girl's Open and Girls' Graded in the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM GP Finals which kicked off this morning at Pyramid Megalanes.

Meanwhile, this year's Girls Graded triple leg winner Siti Safiyah Amirah topped the Girl's Graded division with a fine 1223 scoreline from her six games first block. Her lines of 175, 194, 190, 223, 225 and 216 gave her a cushion of 43 pins lead over 2nd-placed Zatil Iman who scored 1180. Third spot went to Selangor's Nadya Izzati with a score of 1145.

The girls will continue their second block of 6 games in the afternoon after the boys have completed their first block. At the end of the 12 games Round 1, the top 8 from each category will make the cut for Sunday's Round-robin finals.
