Kuala Lumpur youths crowned open champions

30th August, Kuantan: Kuala Lumpur youths, Cheryl Cheong and Muhd Amsyar B Zakaria were crowned the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit GP Finals Open Girl's and Boy's Open champions on Sunday.

Muhd Amsyar of Perak defeated local hopeful, Mohd Hanif B Mohd Bakri of Pahang, 372-317 to take his maiden title. Amsyar took advantage of his opponent inability to settle down in the title matches to take victory.

The champion reached the finals after knocking out Muhd Amin B Abdul Razak of Perak, 395-359 in the first semi-finals while his challenger and topseed ousted Sarawak's Bong Kihow, 398-352 in the other semi.

"I didn't expect the win at all and I was just playing my own game and not thinking about the pressure," said the delighted Muhd Amsyar who hopes to represent Malaysia and some day become a World Champion.

SUKMA Masters gold medalist, Cheryl Cheong finally nailed her second major title after finishing second in three legs before this GP Finals. Cheong beat challenger Farah Izzazaya of Pahang, 332-322 to take her first junior circuit title.

"I was very nervous in the finals against Farah in the first match and only managed 136 but I didn't want to give up and my coach and supporters urged me on and I was able to string some strikes and picked up my spares."

Cheong reached the finals by eliminating Selangor's Nadya Izzati, 367-336 in the second semi-finals. Farah edged topseed, Nazira Nasir of Pahang by just 1 pin with a 329-328 victory in the first semi.


Meanwhile, topseed, Shaun Chan of Selangor was crowned the boy's graded champion when he easily beat Abdul Basit B Mohamad of SSBP, Johor, 379-294 in the title match.

Chan scrapped through into the finals after a thrilling semi against Mohd Shahril Afifie of Pahang. The Selangor youth took the first game, 189-163 but levelled on a total of 369 after Chan lost to Shahril, 180-206 in the second game which saw Shahril sparing a 4-7-10 split in the final frame and 9 pin in his bonus frame to force a one-ball tie breaker.

The champion struck 8 pins and surprisingly, Shahril also threw 8 pins forcing another throw to break the tie. This time round, Shahril managed 8 pins while CHan struck to sel victory.

Abdul Basit defeated Muhd Amirul of Kedah., 362-330 in the other semi-finals to face Chan in the finals.

Topseed Norsyazana Rosli from Perak took the girl's graded title with victory over KL's Nur Shahira Bt Abdul Manaf, 378-342 in the title match. The champion easily knocked out seventh=seed, Sonia Teoh, 390-352 in the semi. Nur Shahira ousted Kedah's Nursyafiqah Bt Ramli of Kedah, 363-228 in the other semi before losing to Norsyazana in the finals.

"Of all the girls here, I was afraid to meet Nur Shahira as she is in fine form," said Form 2 student Norsyazana, who won the last two legs. "I kept telling myself to relax and concentrate on my game.


Sabah youths swept the under-12 titles when Ahmad Fawwaz and Steffira Zeandea finished top of the boys and girls 6-game finals. Ahmad Fawwaz amassed a total of 2429 ahead of Muhd Hareez Ismail and Jason Syow Huay Tik, both from Melaka.

Steffira topped the field of 8 under-12 girls with a total of 2437 followed by overnight leader, Natasha Roslan of Selangor and Ayra Nur Jehan Bt Aminuddin, both from Selangor.

Syed Mohsin Syed Agil, Vice President of the Persatuan Boling Tenpin Pahang gave away the prizes.

First block leader hangs on to lead

29th August, Kuantan: First block leader, Natasha Roslan of Selangor ended the second block with lead in the Girl's Under-12 division of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit GP Finals on Saturday.

Natasha Roslan, who topped the first block with only 5 pins margin. managed to hang on to the top spot on a total of 1368 albeit only 3 pins ahead after the second block ended today.

Her Selangor teammate, Ayra Nur Jehan had all her efforts fell to naught when she failed to catch Natasha and had to settle for second with 1365. Sabah's Steffira Zeandea surprised the field to snatch third spot with a final game of 204 for a total fo 1359.

Burly Ahmad Fawwaz of Sabah and leader in the first block, had to setle for second to Jason Syow Huay Tik of Melaka, who topped the block with 1390. Ahmad lost the lead after a poor final game of 147.

Muhd Hareez Ismail totaled 1368 to take up third spot. Ahmad Aidil B. Abdul Halim made the cut in eighth place with a score of 1301 and an average of 162.68

The top 8 bowlers advanced into the finals for another 6 games to decide tha winners in this category.

Top 3 under-12 boys after the second block
Perak favourite takes topseed

29th August, Kuantan: GP Finals top-ranked, Norsyazana Rosli staked her claim to the title with another superb performance in the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit GP Finals by taking top spot in Girl's Graded after the second block.

With 57 pins margin from the first block of 6 games played yesterday, Norsyazana was able to stretch her lead to 109 pins when the field ended the second block.

Despite a low 142, Norsyanzana totaled 2276 to advance into the championship knockout round as topseed. Her fellow Perakian, Fatin Azmira Bt Khairul Faizi took second spot with 2167 while Hanan Fateha Bt Rozaimee of KL finished third with 2142.

Meanwhile, Mohd Hanif gave his local supporters plenty to cheer as he topped the boy's open division with 2439 as well as the only youth to average above the 200-mark.

Perak youths were outclassed in this block as first block leader, Shin Chern Yew and Muhd Amin B Abdul Razak settled for second and third spots with 2345 and 2330. Bong Kihow of Sarawak was the only non-Perak youth to make the cut in seventh with 2248.

Perak youths, however were proud of themselves as they took six out of the eight slots in the boy's open division to advance into the knockout rounds.

Perak youths dominate open division

28th August, Kuantan: Perak youths dominated the open division of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit GP Finals when Shin Chern Yew and Norsyazana Rosli topped the Boy's Open and Girl's Graded division on Thursday evening.

Top GP Finals ranked, Norsyazana Rosli of Perak opened her campaign with back to back games of 200-plus. There was no stopping the favourite as she went on to top the filed with 1154.

Nur Shahira of Kuala Lumpur and Fatin Azmira of Perak finished a distant second and third positions with 1097 and 1047 respectively. Nadya Izzati took fourth place with 1100.

Shin Chern Yew of Perak, headed the Boy's Open division with a 67 pins lead over fellow Perakian, Teh Lit Qing. Chern Yew, who was the champion in the Melaka Leg held 2 weeks ago, is the only bowler in his category to average above 200 with a total of 1235.

Mohd Hanif B Mohd Bakri, who is the only local youth in the finals, took third spot with 1164, just 4 pins off Lit Qing.

he bowlers will contest their second block after which the top 8 bowlers in all categories, will advance to the championship knockout rounds.

Selangor, Sabah youth rise to the occasion

28th August, Kuantan: Under-12 top ranked, Natasha Roslan of Selangor and Sabah's Ahad Fawwaz rose to the occasion of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit GP Finals by topping the Girl's and Boy's first block of 4 games.

Natasha, who won all four legs of this year's inaugural Under-12 category, had a slow start but picked up her pace from the third game with 218 pinfall. Despite another lowly fourth game of 149, she still managed to lead fellow compatriot Ayra Nur Jehan by 5 pins on a score of 699.

Siti Nurzulaikha Bt Ismal of KL finished third with 682, a further 17 pins adrift second-placed Ayra Nur Jehan.

Ahmad Fawwaz, who throws the bowling ball like it's only 5 pounds, averaged an incredible 184.25 for a 12-year-old to lead Jason Syow of Melaka by 17 pins with a 4-game total of 737.

Muhd Qayyum Zahari of Negeri Sembilan took third spot with 675, 17 pins behind Jason and 62 behind the leader. The bowlers will their second block of another 4 games and a final 6 games to decide the winners.

Selangor, Pahang youths lead opening round

28th August, Kuantan: Selangor's Shaun Ng Chan and Nazira Bt Nasir kicked off the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit Grnad Prix finals with lead in the Boy's Graded and Girl's Open first block of 6 games.

After eight legs in Peninsular Malaysia and two legs in East Malaysia contested, the finale of the National Junior Circuit kicked off at Kuantan Mega Lanes on Thursady.

Featuring the top 12 Under-12 Boys and Girls, 20 Boy's Graded, 16 Girl's Graded, 16 Boy's Open and 12 Girl's Open from 10 different states of Malaysia, who have gathered for the most prestigious event for the youths in Malaysia.

The first squad of the day saw lanky southpaw Shaun Chan of Selangor, leading the pack with a total of 1216, averaging 202.67.


He led with quite a comfortable margin of 53 pins from Melaka Leg champion Abdul Basit B Mohammad of SSBP, Johor. Third spot went to Muhammad Mizan B Abd Rahman of Johor with 1158.

In the Girl's Open, Nazira Bt Nasir from Pahang with home ground advantage had lines of 181, 192, 196, 245, 178, and 189 to take pole position. Nazira who was the champion here during the Pahang Leg currently led Sabahan Siti Aishajan by 47 pins in second.

Sukma Games gold medalist and Melaka leg champion, Fara Iazzazaya of Pahang finished third with 1112. The bowlers will complete their second of another 6 games on Friday when the top 8 will advance to the knockout championship round.
