Sarawak youths captures Open division titles

20th June, K.Kinabalu: SUKMA Mixed Doubles Bronze medalist, Isaac Russel Paul and Debbie Kong of Sarawak, captured the Boy's and Girl's Open division titles of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit Sabah Leg at CPS Bowl.

Isaac, a member of the Gemilang 2010 Squad, outclassed challenger, Tan Chien Nan of Sabah 259-155 to captured the Boy's Open title in the stepladder finals.

The second-seed and runner-up, settled for second despite winning the first match knocking out two other Sabah youths, Clement Loh (207) and Sheridan Latiff (179) with a superb 220.

4409 averaging 197.68 while Tan finished second with 4265. Loh and Sheridan made the cut for the stepladder finals in third and fourth positions with 4233 and 4176 respectively.


Debbie Kong from Sibu gave Sarawak a double after she defeated Nor Rashidah of Kuching, 236-174 in the final stepladder mtach to take the Girl's Open title convincingly.

The third-seed and runner-up did well to move up the ladder after she winning the first match to knock out second-seed and last year's champion, Trish Khoo (203) of Sabah and fourth-seed Alicia Lim (155), also of Sabah with a score of 212.

The girls skipped the Round-robin finals because there were only four girls competing in this division where the champion topped the quarterfinals with 2534 from Trish Khoo in second with 2518. Nor Rashidah and Alicia Lim took third and fourth placings with 2492 and 1934 respectively.

Meanwhile, Aris Adilla Santosh from Miri clinched the Boy's Graded division title after defeating local youth, Fadzyinie Dullie, 243-213 in the final stepladder match.

The second-seed and runner-up settled for second despite knocking out third-seed, Shah Nizam (177) from Miri and fourth-seed Alex Tan (215) of Kuching with 225. Alex took third spot while Nizam dropped to fourth.

Amirah Kuslan salvaged a title for Sabah when she ousted top-seed, Therese Sipaul in two games, 179, 180 to Therese's 165, 156 for the Girl's Graded division crown. The champion and second-seed, outclassed her opponents, third-seed Bong Kishan (126) of Kuching and fourth-seed Yap Cheng Yah (158) of Sabah with a high game of 247 before going on to claim the title.
