Mohd Amirul Syafiq, Christyn Chew captures Open division titles

9th March, Ipoh: Muhd Amirul Syafiq of MSN captured his first Boy's Open title of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit second leg at Ampang Superbowl, Ipoh while favourite, Christyn Chew from Selangor took the Girl's Open title with ease.

Top-seed Mohd Amirul was forced into a sudden-death game after loosing to Zaid Izlan 158-205 in the first game of the Boy's Open stepladder finals. But Mohd Amirul got his composure back and came back strongly to win the title 244-192.

Selangor's Zaid Izlan who finished 3rd in the round-robin finals, demolished his opposition in the first match beating 4th-seed Ahmad Faeez (KEL) and 2nd-seed Eric Lim (PRK) 211 to 147 and 176 respectively to set up the final match against Mohd Amirul.


First Open title for Mohd Amirul Syafiq


Favourite and leader in all the stages, Christyn Chew from Selangor, proved tood good for the field when she defeated challenger Hee Kar Foong 176-159 to win her first Open and 2003 title. Christyn had earlier topped the round-robin fiansl with a score of 4030.

In the first Girl's Open stepladder match amongst 2nd-seed Elaine Lam (PRK-159), 3rd-seed Hee Kar Foong (SEL-180) and 4th-seed Nur Syakirah Yeoh (KED-125), it was Kar Foong who defeated her opponents with ease.

But she soon found out that luck was not with her as she went down to top-seed Christyn.

Fatin Syazliana, Fabian Lai, bags Graded division titles

9th March, Ipoh: Penang's Fatin Syazliana bagged the Girl's Graded division title of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit second leg at Ampang Superbowl, Ipoh while Pahang's Fabian Lai easily took the Boy's Graded division title.

Fatin, who finished fourth in the first leg in Penang last month made amends by ousting 3rd-seed Saw Bee Gek (PEN) and 2nd-seed Amalyna Kelana (SEL) 178-160-175 in the first Girl's Graded stepladder finals match. Fatin went on to beat top-seed Low Xin Pin (MSN) in two games 135,211 to Low's 106/153 in the final match to take her first 2003 junior title.

Fatin had earlier accumulated 3569 pinfalls to finish 4th-seed behind Saw Bee Gek (3599), Amalyna Kelana (3619) and Low Xin Pin (3772) in the round-robin finals in the morning.

Pahang's Fabian Lai easily took the Boy's Graded division title after beating Muhd Nur Aiman from Johor 178-164 in the stepladder finals. Fabian had led from start to finish with a total of 4382 at the end of the round-robin finals.

Muhd Nur Aiman who finished 4th, had earlier won the first stepladder match defeating 3rd-seed Kelvin Tan (PEN) and 2nd-seed Mohd Fazil Ariff (SEL) 168-156-147 before crashing out to Fabian.

Muhd Nur Aiman scored 3888 while Kelvin Tan and Mohd Fazil scored 4082 and 4191 respectively to qualify for the stepladder finals.

Eric Lim, Christyn Chew leads Open division quarter finals

8th March, Ipoh: Perak's Eric Lim Mun Wong was in devastating form to lead the Boy's Open division quarter finals of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit second leg at Ampang Superbowl, Ipoh while Christyn Chew from Selangor topped the Girl's division.

The newcomer from Ipoh scorched the Ampang Superbowl lanes to score 1194 over the six-games quarter finals for a grand total of 2671 pinfalls. He was just 8 pins ahead of second-placed Penang leg champion Eric Ang who scored of 2663. Third place went to Johor's Fahmi Bahri with 2655 pinfalls.

Meanwhile, in the Girl's Open division, there was a keen tussle for the lead between Stage 1 leader Christyn Chew and Kedah's Nur Syakirah Yeoh. It was Christyn who bowled more consistently to take the lead with a total of 2462 just 8 pins ahead of Nur Syakirah on 2454.

Third place went to Christina Teng from Selangor with 2438. The top 8 Boys and Girls qualified for tomorrow's Round-robin finals. At the end of the finals, the top 4 from each division will make the cut for the stepladder grand finals.

Fabian Lai, Low Xin Pin tops Graded division quarter finals

8th March, Ipoh: Pahang's Fabian Lai who lead in Stage 1 continue to lead the Boy's Graded division quarter finals of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit second leg at Ampang Superbowl, Ipoh while Low Xin Pin of MSN lead the Girl's Graded division.

Fabian started the quarter finals with a small margin of 17 pins from Stage 1 accumulated 1229 over the 6-games for a total of 2784 pinfalls. He stretched the lead to 21 pins from Selangor's Mohd Fazil Ariff who scored 2763. Kelvin Tan from Penang finished third with 2633, 130 pins away.

Muhammad Nur Aiman from Johor moved up from fifth in Stage 1 to fourth place with 2462 while Kenson Low also improved from 7th to fifth with 2449.

Meanwhile, in the Girl's Graded division, Low Xin Pin of MSN maintained her lead from Stage 1 with a total of 2408, 119 pins ahead of first leg champion, Amalyna Kelana on 2289. Low scored 1084 to add to her 1324 scored in Stage 1 for the lead. Third was first leg 3rd runner-up, Fatin Syazliana from Penang with 2268.

Wan Nur Atiqqa from Johor dropped from second to fourth with 2262 while Penang's Saw Bee Gek finished fifth on 2226.

The top 8 Boys and Girls qualified for tomorrow's Round-robin finals. At the end of the finals, the top 4 from each division will make the cut for the stepladder grand finals.
