Mohd Faiz, Nur Syakirah Yeo captures second leg Open titles

22nd February, S.Prai: Fourth-seed Mohd Faiz of Penang captured the Boy's Open title while Nur Syakirah Yeoh won the Girl's title of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit second leg which concluded this afternoon.

The burly Mohd Faiz snatched the title from top-seed Alex Choo Jian Lin from Kedah winning the final and crucial stepladder match 179-159. Faiz had earlier won the first match 232-198 to force Alex into the sudden-death final match.

Faiz was also in top form when he knocked out 2nd-seed Faris Izwan (170) from Perak and 4th-seed Khairul Hafidz (195) from Kedah with a score of 207.

Alex settled for second despite topping the round-robin finals with 4272 ahead of Faris Izwan in second with 4244. Khairul Hafidz finished third with 4180 ahead of the champion, Faiz in fourth with 4155.


Meanwhile, Kedah's Nur Syakirah Yeoh took her first 2004 title after she easily defeated Johor's Wan Nur Atiqqa 199-161. Nur Syakirah did well to finish as top-seed after the round-robin finals with 4052 especially after lying third in both the earlier rounds.

Wan Atiqqa had earlier ousted 2nd-seed Nadya Izzati in a thrilling 9th and 10th frame to break the tie after both scored 201. Wan Atiqqa eventually moved up the stepladder with 43 to Nadya's 37. Fourth-seed Charlotte Sak from Selangor only managed 150 in the same match.

Nadya Izzati totalled 3986 finishing second in the round-robin finals ahead of Wan Atiqqa who had 3958 with Charlotte Sak in fourth with 3927.

First win for Tajul Aswad, back-to-back title for Nor Atteya

22nd February, S.Prai: Penang's Tajul Aswad won his first Boy's Graded title while Perak's Nor Atteya took her second consecutive Girl's Graded title in the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit second leg at Mega Lanes this afternoon.

Local youth, Tajul Aswad took the title after surviving a sudden-death final match against top-seed Jeremy Mun 173-157. Jeremy Mun, who lead in all the rounds lost the first match to Tajul 162-202 in the first game, settled for second spot.

In the first Boy's Graded stepladder match amongst 4th-seed Foo Yeong Lin (168) of Perak, 2nd-seed Mohd Huzaily (145) from Selangor, Tajul knocked out both his opponent with a score of 192.

Jeremy Mun had earlier topped round-robin finals with a total score of 4278 ahead of Mohd Huzaily in second with 4176. Newly-crowned champion, Tajul Aswad totalled 4135 to finish third for the stepladder finals followed by Foo Yeong Lin in fourth with 4074.


Perak's Nor Atteya took her second consecutive title after she defeated 4th-seed and challenger, Denise Ho in the second match 162-155. Denise had forced Nor Atteya into the sudden-death match after winning the first 193-168.

The win gave Nor Atteya her second title this year after she triumphed in the first leg in Ipoh ealier this month.

Denise settled for second despite winning the first Girl's Graded stepladder match defeating 2nd-seed Lina Masrissa Zamri (158) from Kedah and 3rd-seed Sin Li Jane (125) from Perak with a score of 164.

The two-time champion, Nor Atteya topped the round-robin finals with a total of 3899 ahead of Lina Marissa in second with 3827. Sin Li Jane and Denise Ho finished 3rd and 4th with 3702 and 3611 respectively.

Khairul Hafidz, Fatin Syazliana moves into round-robin finals with slender lead

21st February, S.Prai: Stage 1 leaders Khairul Hafidz from Kedah and Fatin Syazliana of Penang moved into the Boy's and Girl's Open round-robin finals of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit second leg after quarterfinals this evening.

Khairul Hafidz, who won a Doubles Silver and Team Gold medal in the 6th Asian Schools championship at the same venue, capitalised on his favourite ground but only to lead by 29 pins after the quaterfinals on 2711. Alex Choo Jian Lin trailed Khairul in second with 2682 while Perak's Faris Izwan moved up from 6th to third spot with 2654.

Tengku Afnan (KED-2561), Muhd Nur Aiman (JOH-2559), Mohd Faiz Shahruddin (PEN-2538), Adrian Charles Dragon (PEN-2505) and Ian Tay Yee Ren (KUL-2492) made the cut for the round-robin finals in 4th to 8th place.

In the Girl's Graded division, pint-sized Fatin Syazliana of Penang and leader of Stage 1 stretched her lead from 17 to 29 pins on a total of 2541. Hot on her heels came Kedah's Nadya Izzati Nor Azman who improved from 6th to second with 2511 pushing Nur Syakirah Yeoh into third spot with 2491.

Fatin had lines of 157, 156, 209, 175, 178 and 182 for a score of 1057 to add to the Stage 1 score of 1484 for the slender lead.

Charlotte Sak (SEL-2470), Wan Nur Atiqqa (JOH-2469), Ziran Nadiah Ghazali (SEL-2451), Saw Bee Gek (PEN-2352) and Sharon Koh (SEL-2320) qualified for tomorrow's round-robin finals in 4th to 8th place respectively.

21st February, S.Prai:Nor Atteya led Perak girls to a 1-2-3 finish in the Girl's Graded quarterfinals of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit second leg while Kuala Lumpur's Jeremy Mun continued to lead the Boy's division.

Stage 1 leader, Nor Atteya stretched her lead from 3 pins to 108 pins on a total score of 2505 from teammate Sin Li Jane who downed 2397. The Perak girls occupied the top 3 positions when Nazrinnah Mohd Kamil finished third with 2300.

Lina Marissa Zamri (KED-2280), Tg. Emanina Laily (KED-2242), Charmaine Ho (MSN-2228), Diyana Syazwani (SEL-2227) and Denise Ho (MSN-2222) all made the cut for the next stage round-robin finals in 4th to 8th place.

In the Boy's Graded division, Jeremy Mun, the 17 year-old SMK Taman Kosas pupil maintained the lead he took in Stage 1 after this afternoon's quarterfinals with a total score of 2776.

Although Jeremy did not have as many 200 games as in Stage 1, he was able to lead by 130 pins from Mohd Huzaily of Selangor who totalled 2646 for second. Another local lad, Foo Yeong Lin did well to move up from 7th yesterday to occupy third spot on 2636.

Making tomorrow's top 8 round-robin finals were Nik Mohd Nor Firdaus (PEN-2588), Tajul Aswad (PEN-2582), Kurtwin Low (KUL-2546), Equine Lam Wai Lik (PRK-2535) and Afiq Rifqi (JOH-2516) from 4th to 8th.

Fatin Syazliana, Khairul Hafidz tops Open division Stage 1

21st February, S.Prai: First leg winner Fatin Syazliana of Penang and Khairul Hafidz from Kedah topped the Girl's and Boy's Open division Stage 1 of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit second leg at Mega Lanes this morning.

The pint-sized Fatin proved that her win in Ipoh was no fluke when she took the lead in the Girl's Open Stage 1 over 8 games with a score of 1484. She had lines of 205, 190, 158, 170, 215, 199, 175 and 172.

Kedah's Nur Syakirah Yeoh followed in second just 17 pins adrift on 1467 while 17th Interstate Championship Girl's Singles Gold medalist, Wan Nur Atiqqa took third spot with 1400. Ziran Nadiah Ghazali from Selangor was fourth just one away on 1399.

In the Boy's division, Kedah youth finished 1-2 when 6th Asian Schools Doubles Silver and Team Gold medalist, Khairul Hafidz topped the field with a 33 pin lead over Alex Choo Jian Lin in second with 1533. Khairul knocked down 152, 205, 196, 219, 223, 177, 224 and 170 for 1566.

17th Interstate Team Silver medalist, Eric Chai came in third with 1477 followed by Johor's Muhd Nur Aiman with 1467 and Abdul Muhaimin Izham with 1457 in 4th and 5th respectively. The lanes appeared to be difficult to handle as none of the boys could reach above 200 average.

The top 12 Girls and top 16 Boys will move on to the quarterfinals for another 6 games. The top 8 from each category will proceed to the round-robin finals on Sunday, 22nd February.

Jeremy Mun, Nor Atteya leads after Stage 1 in Junior Circuit second leg

20th February, S.Prai: The first day of the second leg SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit ended late this evening with Kuala Lumpur's Jeremy Mun leading the Boy's Graded Stage 1 while first leg winner, Nor Atteya from Perak topped the Girl's Graded division.

Jeremy completed the 8 games Stage 1 in fine style totalling 1680 and became the only bowler in this round to average above the 200-mark. He had lines of 248, 226, 200, 187, 206, 243, 164 and 206 to average 210.

Local lad, Tajul Aswad finished a distant second - 150 pins from the leader on 1530 while Selangor's Muhd Huzaily came third with 1498. Another local youth, Nik Mohd Nor Firdaus took fourth spot with 1482 followed by Syahereza Fajrin from Selangor in fifth on 1474.

In the Girl's Graded division, first leg winner Nor Atteya followed up on her form to take a lead slender of 3 pins with a total score of 1418. Her 17th Interstate Team Gold medalist, Sin Li Jane finished second with 1415 while Negeri Sembilan's Nurul Ilyanee Awaluddin took third spot with 1326.

Diyana Syazwani Noor from Selangor did well for fourth placing with 1322 while Tg. Emanina Laily Tg. Zahari from Kedah finished in the top 5 in fifth with 1314.

The top 48 Boys and top 28 Girls qualified for tomorrow's quarterfinal. At the end of the quarterfinal, the top 8 from each division will make the cut for the round-robin finals.
