Topseeds crumble in knockout finals

3rd August, K.Lumpur: Topseeds of the four divisions crumbled in the knockout finals and failed to capture the title of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit KL Leg at Mega Lanes Endah Parade on Sunday afternoon.

Stage 1 and 2 leader and SUMKA Masters gold medalist, Cheryl Cheong of Kuala Lumpur lost to fourth-seed, Syaidatul Afifah of Perak, 410-438 in the title match of the Girl's Open finals.

Despite winning the closely fought first match, 237-226, Cheong was unable to get into her strides in the crucial second match going down, 173-212 to end the match with 410 to Syaidatul's 438.

The Perak youth clinched her first circuit title this year after only finishing first runnerup twice this year in the second and third legs. The champion reached the finals by ousting sixth-seed, Nor Amilia of Selangor, 418-405 in the semi. Cheong narrowly beat another Selangor youth, Siti Nur Harini, 386-365 in the first semi to earn a crack at the title but found Syaidatul to strong to beat and had to settle for second.


Another topseed, Teh Lit Qing also failed in his bid to win his first title in the top division. Teh crashed out after losing to seventh-seed, Yusof Abd Roaf, 379-427 in the first semi.

Third-seed, Mohd Amirrul Afif defeated Melaka's Kevin Tan, 474-431 in the other semi before going on to beat Yusof 410-376 to claim his second circuit title this year.

Topseed, Selva Nivashini of Selangor was eliminated in the quarter-finals by eight-seed, Nur Azlin Bt Abu Bakar of SSBP. Nur Azlin narrowly beat second-seed, Nur Shahira Bt Abdul Manaf of KL, 319-310 in the semi to reach the finals.

But Nur Azlin's fine run came to an end when she was beated by sixth-seed, Norsyazana Rosli, 336-358 in the title match of the Girl's Graded

division. The champion knocked out fifth-seed, Nur Fadeena Bt Aznel, 337-325 in the other semi.

Undoubtedly the luckiest youth to win the boy's graded crown was eight-seed, Mohd Hazwan Harman Shah of Negeri Sembilan. Mohd Hazwan barely made the cut for the knockout stage, edging Syed Mohd Hafiz by just 11 pins after a strong final game of 206.

He first edged out topseed, Louis Liaw of KL, 338-332 in the quarter-finals and another closely fought semi-finals narrowly defeating fourth-seed, Mohd Shahir Surni of N.sembilan, 364-362.


In the finals, Mohd Hazwan lost the first game, 180-183 but bounched back with a convincingly win over his opponent, Amir Din Imran of Selangor, 204-173. His two game total of 384 was enough to seal the victory. Amir settled for second despite beating sixth-seed, Mohd Zafiz Zulkilfi of N. Sembilan, 427-412 in the other semi to reach the finals.

Meanwhile, Wan Nadzmi Fikri of Selangor claimed his second circuit title when he registered 1042 in the finals to give the youngster a 12-game total of 2221. Muhd Hafiz Fikri and Mohd Naim B Hashim completed Selangor's clean sweep in second and third spots.

Qualifying leader, Nur Ain Bt Mustafa failed to capitalise on the lead she had built up in yesterday's round to finish fourth with 1922. Natasha Roslan of Selangor, who was sixth overnight, powered her way to clinch her first title with a total of 1983 and a superb 1094 final block.

Anessa Asyira Abas of N. Sembilan finished second with 1943 followed by Siti Nuruzulaikha Bt Ismail of KL third with 1928. The final leg of this year's circuit will end with the Melaka leg from August 15 - 17.

KL, Perak youths top Stage 2

2nd August, K.Lumpur: Stage 1 leaders, Cheryl Cheong of KL and Teh Lit Qing of Perak, continued to lead the Boy's and Girl's Open after completing Stage 2 of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit KL Leg at Mega Lanes Endah Parade.

SUKMA Masters gold medalist, Cheryl Cheong outclassed her opponents with an awesome performance to retained the lead in the Girl's Open division after the completion of round 2.

With already 168 pins margin from yesterday's Stage 1, the 16-year-old chalked up lines of 198, 205, 179, 217, 206 and 198 to score 1203 and giving herself a 14-game total fo 2858.

Perak's Nazrinnah Mohd Kamil finished second, 259 pins adrift the leader on a total of 2599 while SUKMA Trios gold medalist, Farah Izzazaya Bt Mohd Fariq of Pahang claimed third spot with 2595.


Stage 1 leader, Teh Lit Qing of Perak also maintained his lead in the Boy's Open division with another superb performance. The Perak youth, who has yet to win a title this year, registerd exactly 3000 over the two blocks.

Abdul Muhaimin B Khairuddin of Perak and first leg champion, Mohd Amirrul Afif of KL shared second spot with a total of 2810, 190 pins adrift Teh. Kevin Tan Hock Leong of Melaka and Mohd Aziem Azemi of KL rounded up the top 5.

The top 8 girls and boys advanced to the knockout stage on Sunday over two-game total in the quarter-finals. The winners will meet in the semi-finals and finals to determine the champion.

Selangor girls maintains lead

2nd August, K.Lumpur: Stage 1 leader, Selva Nivashini of Selangor retained the lead at the end of Stage 2 of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit KL leg while Louis Liaw regained pole in the boy's division on Saturday afternoon.

Selva Nivashini, who led Stage 1 with an 8-game total of 1560 on a 43-pins, stretched her lead to 106 to lead the top 8 girls into the knockout stage of the Girl's graded division.

The Selangor lass knocked down 1073 in her second stage to amass a 14-game total of 2633. Nur Shahira Bt Abdul Manaf of KL improved from third overnight to take up second spot with 2527.

The biggest mover was Nur Shamira Bt Abdul Manaf of KL, hauling herself up from ninth to third with 2520. Noramirah Bt Hashim and Nur Fedeena Bt Aznel completed the top 5.

Meanwhile, Louis Liaw Vern Xien of KL, regained the lead with a superb second block of 1121 and a total of 2711 to advance into the knockout stage as top seed. Mohd Azlan B Norani of Perak and Stage 1 leader, Muhd Aizudeen Mustaqim of Selangor settled for second and third spots with 2695 and 2688 respectively.


Mohd Shahir Surni of N.Sembilan and Abdul Basit B Mohd of SSBP tied for fourth place (2681), Mohd Zafiz Zulkifli of N.Sembilan (2663), Amir Din Imran of Selangor (2653) and Mohd Hazwan of N.Sembilan (2647) made the cut.

Nur Ain Bt Mustafa of Kedah and fifth leg champion, Wan Nadzmi Fikri of Selangor, topped the qualifying round of the Girl's and Boy's Under-12 divisions.

Nur Ain amassed a 6-game total of 985 to lead Mariah Bt Mohd Arshad of Perak and Ayra Nur Jehan Bt Aminuddin of Selangor in second and third with 919 and 915 into the finals tomorrow.

Wan Nadzmi shot 1179 and an impressive 196.5 average to top the boy's division. Mohd Naim B Hashim of Selangor finished second with 1136 followed by Muhd Hareez Ismail of Melaka in third with 1034.

Selangor graded youths dominates Stage 1

1st August, K.Lumpur: Selangor youths, Muhd Aizudeen Mustaqim and Amir Din Imran dominated Boy's Graded Stage 1 of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit KL leg occupying the top 2 spots while Selva Nivahini topped the Girl's division on Friday evening.

KL's Louis Liaw Vern Xien, who set the benchmark of 1590 in yesterday's squad for KL youths only, had to settle for third spot after Selangor's Muhd Aizudeen Mustaqim registered 1619 to advance into the next round a leader.

Muhd Aizudeen led from the halfway mark of the 8-games block with just 10 pins from Mohd Zafiq Syaddiq of Perak but drew away in the next two games to stretch his lead to 66 pins.

Despite a poor 155 in his final game, it was good enough to end the block in pole position. Amir Din Imran stormed home to take second spot with 1604 to give Selangor the top 2 positions.

Twice third runnerup, Selva Nivashini completed Selangor's domination in the first round with a superb 1560 to top the girl's graded division. Nur Shahira Bt Abdul Manaf, who led in the KL youths squad, finished third with 1481 behind Johor's Noramirah Bt Hashim, who posted 1517.

Hanan Fateha Bt Rozaimee and Nurain Fatin Bt Abdul Rasid rounded up the top 5 with totals of 1458 and 1422 respectively. The top 48 boys and top 28 girls will advance to Stage 2 for another 6 games.

KL youths set benchmark in Stage 1

31st July, K.Lumpur: Kuala Lumpur's Louis Liaw Vern Xien and Nur Shahira Bt Abdul Manaf set the benchmark for other youths competiting in the SportExcel-MSN-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit KL leg with lead in Stage 1 at Mega Lanes in Endah Parade.

Fellow KL youth, Leng Sing Yee set a blistering pace as 34 KL graded youths took to the lanes on Thursday morning with two opening games of 234 and 230 in the 8-game preliminary stage one and a lead of 37 pins.

Leng continued to register 198 and 200 to stretch his lead to 45 pins at the halfway point followed by Mohd Shafiq B. Ridzwan since the start. Louis Liaw Vern Xien, who got off to a poor start with 168 and 164, crawled his way up the field and was 146 pins behind the leader.

But Louis fired 255, 201 and 226 to grab over the lead and 15 pins ahead of the Leng before the eighth and final game. A 192 in Louis' last game was enough to seal the lead with a total of 1590.

Pace-setter, Leng was content with second spot on a total of 1544, 46 pins adrift with ohd Shafiq third with 1520. Qalif Adnor Adam and Calvin Chew Sze Hwa rounded up the top 5 as the batch awaited youths from other states to complete their stage one tomorrow.

In a field of only 10 KL graded youth girls, Nur Shahira Bt Abdul Manaf finished in the lead with 1481 thanks to a better second half of the block. Hanan Fateha Bt Rozaimee, who led from game 5 onwards, lost to lead to Nur Shahira after a poor 152 in her final game.

Hanan settled for second with 1458 followed by Farahana Amelia Bt Ahmad Radzi, Nur Shamira Bt Abdul Manaf and early leader, Liew Li Jian taking up the top 5 positions with 1379, 1374 and 1368 respectively.

Outstation graded boys will be divided into two squads while the single squad graded girls will bowl their stage 1 on Friday morning to determine the top 48 boys and top 28 girls will advance into the next round.
