Tan Hui Cheng, Liaw Siaw Hui emerges as Girl's Open and Graded champion

8th June, Kuching: Local lass, Tan Hui Cheng emerged as the Girl's Open champion of the Sportexcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit Sarawak Leg at Riverside Superbowl while the Girl's Graded title went to Liaw Siaw Hui of Miri.

Top-seed Tan Hui Cheng defeated challenger Trish Khoo from Sabah after being forced to a sudden-death roll-off when Tan lost the first game 162-167. But she bounced back to take the Girl's Open title 169-161 in the final game.

Runner-up and 4th-seed, Trish Khoo won the the first stepladder match defeating 3rd-seed Rubee Shahreen (153) of Miri and 2nd-seed Wilhelmina Wee (169) of Kuching with a convincing 195.

Liaw Siaw Hui from Miri captured the Girl's Graded division title after defeating Kuching's Nor Rashidah 185-180 in the final stepladder match. 2nd-seed Nor Rashidah had earlier won the first stepladder match between 3rd-seed Nadiah (189) of Kuching and 4th-seed Nur Hanisa (172) with 194.


Meanwhile, Sufri Hassan from Sabah became the Boy's Open champion when he convincingly defeated challenger Mohd Zaheer 234-172 in the finals stepladder match. Mohd Zaheer who was seeded 3rd, had to settle for second despite winning the first stepladder match 225 against 2nd-seed Karry Chang (213) and 4th-seed Kevin Lok (198).

Karry, who won a Gold medal in the 6th Asian Schools Team event, failed to shine while Kelvin Lok, who led the first block in the National Backup squad roll-off last week also failed to proceed further in the title chase.

The Boy's Graded title went to Alif Reza from Sabah defeating top-seed Vincent Ong with 178/222 to 172/202. 4th-seed Alif (216) had also taken the first match defeating 2nd-seed Aris Ardila (161) and Shah Nizam (155).
