Debbie Kong, Mohd Zaim Zulfadlie claims Sarawak leg Open titles

25th July, Kuching: Sabah leg champion, Debbie Kong of Sibu claimed her second consecutive Girl's Open title of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit Sarawak leg while Mohd Zaim Zulfadlie of Sabah took the Boy's title at Crystal Bowl.

Debbie Kong had to work hard for the win when she was forced into a sudden-death second match by her challenger, Nor Rashida after losing the first match, 172-214. But the 17-year-old SUKMA bowler fought back to clinch the title in the crucial match, 200-190.

Kong, who was trailing the field in Stage 1 of the Girl's Open division on 1394 took over top spot with 2531 after the quarter finals was completed. Nor Rashida settled for second despite ousting second-seed, Trish Khoo Wei Ling, 183-168 in the first stepladder match before going down to the champion.


Second consecutive title for Debiie Kong


Meanwhile, top-seed Mohd Zaim Zulfadlie of Sabah easily defeated his challenger and winner of the first Boy's Open stepladder match, Ruzaini Mohd Ghazali of Kuching, 223-190 to capture his first-ever Junior Circuit title.

The champion had topped the field of 8 finalists in the Round-robin finals with a total of 4501 before the stepladder finals. Ruzaini did well to finished second after he edged second-seed and Sabah leg champion, Isaac Russell Paul (211) and third-seed, Gallen Bong Hwee Haw (211) of Kuching with 218 in the first match.

Ruzaini settled for second while third spots were shared by Isaac and Gallen.



Mohd Zaim Zulfadlie winning the Boy's Open title

At the end of the Sarawak leg, Isaac Russell Paul (SWK), Mohd Zaim Zulfadhlie Said (SAB), Tan Chien Nan (SAB) qualified for the GP Finals in the Boy's Open division whilst two Sarawak girls, Debbie Kong and Nor Rashidah made the finals in the Girl's Open division.

Local youths dominate to capture Boy's and Girl's Graded titles

25th July, Kuching: Local youths dominated the Graded division of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MSSM Junior Circuit Sarawak leg when Alex Tan and Jacqueline Sijore captured the Boy's and Girl's Graded titles.

Alex Tan Khai Lung led four local youths into the Boy's Graded stepladder finals as top-seed when he totalled 4125 in the earlier Round-robin finals. Tan went on to defeat second-seed and winner of the first match, Aris Ardilla Santosh, 211-169 for an easy win.

The runner-up could not reproduced the form he displayed when he won the first match knocking out third-seed, Jasper Ling Thien Jin (160) and fourth-seed, Shah Nizam Doming (177) with a superb 212, loosing to the eventual champion.


Alex Tan Khai Lung emerging as Boys Graded champion

The Girl's Graded division also saw all four finalists all from Sarawak. The second-seed, Jacqueline Sijore forced top-seed Bong Kishan to a sudden-death second match after a thrilling first match tie-breaker. Both bowlers levelled at 174 to go into a 9-10 frame roll-off.

The tie could not be broken when both tied again at 39 pins and taking it to another 9-10 frame roll-off. The champion got the better of Bong with 49 to Bong's 29 to take the first match. Jacqueline too had to work hard to eventually took the title in the crucial match, 184-173 for a well-deserved.

All three Sarawakians, Aris Ardilla Santosh, Alex Tan Khai Lung and Shah Nizal Doming qualified for the GP Finals in the Boy's Graded division while Bong Kishan (SWK) and Therese Sipaul (SAB) made the cut for the Girl's Graded division.
