Sarawak youths dominate

14th June, Kuching: Sarawak junior keglers again showed thier might as they captured five out of sixth titles of the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit Sarawak Leg which concluded at Riverside Superbowl on Sunday.

Nazrin Wagiman of Politeknik Kuching was on fire as he outclassed fifth-seed, Jonathan Ding and seventh-seed, Haswan B Hasni of Miri, 248-239-167 in the quaterfinals to set up a match with second-seed Chong Jun Foo.

Nazrin was equally impressive eaning his place in the finals be defeating Chong, 266-148 and 235-200 in the semifinals. Topseed, Bong Kihow of Kuching ousted winner of the other quaterfinal match, Douglas Tan, 189-196 and 247-160 in the other semi to face Nazrin.

The best of friends off bowling, Nazrin and Bong fought it out in the Boy's Open finals in the best-of-three matches but Nazrin needed only two matches to claim the title winning the first with 258-205 and second with 201-188.

Bong settled for second despite topping the earlier Stage 2 finals with 3210 and averaging an impressive 229.3. Second-seed, Chong ended up in third and Douglas fourth.


In the Girl's Open category, Nurafidza gave Kuching their second title when she defeated Nabilah Kassim of Kota Kinabalu, 149-213, 181-129 and 201-169 in the finals. The second-seed Nurafidza defeated third-seed, Dayang Aida 212-183 in the first semifinals.

Nabilah ousted topseed, Syazwani Sajeli of Kuching, 194-161 and 191-178 to earn a crack at the title and had forced Nurafidza to the third and deciding game. Dayang Aida settled for third while Syazwani finished fourth.

Second-seed, Mohd Ridhwan from Miri clinched the Boy's Graded title after he beat topseed, Ahmad Fawwaz from Kota Kinabalu, over two games with scores of 193-189 and 201-183. The champion had earlier narrowly beaten winner of the first quaterfinals match, Jeremy Jerome of Kuching, 166-151 in the first semifinals.

Ahmad Fawwaz eliminated winner of the second quaterfinal match, Stefan Greater of Kota Kinabalu, 178-194 and 174-163 in the other semi to reach the finals. Stefan and Jeremy settled for third and fourth position respectively.


The only title that Sarawak did not win was when Siti Farahain of Kota Kinabalu defeated topseed, Nurafdleen of Kuching, 200-171 to capture the Girl's Graded crown. The second-seed, Siti Farahain easily beat third-seed, Dzuriani of Kota Kinabalu, 192-163 in the first semifinals to advance to the finals.

Nurafdleen edged sixth-seed, Farzana of Miri, 169-167 in the other semi to meet Siti Farahain in the finals. Farzana, who eliminated Jocelyna of Kuching and Alexandria of K.K., 192-189-152 in the quarterfinals, settled for third.

Dzuriani, who beat two Kuching youths, Jacelyn Ng and Nurfaridza, 180-153-158 in the first quarterfinals match, finished fourth. Christopher Tiong of Sibu clinched the Boy's Under-12 title be defeating Dzulfitrey Zulkiplee of K.K., 169-150.



Girl's Graded champion, Siti Farahain of Kota Kinabalu


Raylin Ang defeated Jacelyn Ng Shuh Wun, 157-133, 140-143 and 147-139 in the all-Kuching finals to claim the Girl's Under-12 crown. Mr Sunny Si, President, Mr Robert Lu, scretary general, Mr Yeun Poh Hua, hon. treasurer gave away the prizes for ABAS.

Cik Suefarinawati, the Sports Co-ordinator for Majlis Sukan Negeri Sarawak (Unit Sukan Prestasi Tinggi) gave away the certificates and Milo products. The return leg (Sabah) will be held at CPS Superbowl from 9th to 12th July, 2009.
