21st Asian Championships - Men Trios (1st Block)

What an awesome display of bowling by our Men's Trios of Nur Aiman, Syafiq Ridhwan & Aaron Kong at the Khalifa Bowling Centre, Abu Dhabi this afternoon !
Bowled like men possessed, southpaw Nur Aiman was instrumental in steering our Trios to a roaring start, reeling a string of consecutive strikes for a remarkable 246 opening game. Lanky Syafiq Ridhwan paced reasonably well for a 214 game; while anchorman Aaron Kong responded with an equally impressive 243 game, resulting in a 703 series to lead the strong field of 34 contesting trios.
In the second game, our Trios extend the lead with another amazing performance. Pressing on full throttle, Nur Aiman made another almost identical game with a 243 scoreline. Visibly motivated, lanky Syafiq Ridhwan joined in the fiery fray to fire on all cylinders for a scintillating 268 game while Aaron Kong felt the heat to anchor home on 201 for an improved 712 game total.
Unperturbed by a late challenge by host country and the ferocious home cheering crowd, it was lanky Syafiq and anchorman, Aaron moments of gritty display with Syafiq blazing the lanes for 245 game and Aaron stormed home for a 254 game. Nur Aiman bowled a subtle 181 game but a 680 game total was good enough for our Trios to grab pole position with 2095 total Block series; 84 pins ahead of 2nd placed challenger, host country, UAE.
Malaysia's second Trios of youngsters lost ground in their 3rd game after putting up a reasonable performance in their earlier games. Aris Ardilla bowled the lines of 201, 215 & 192 for a 608 series, rookie Yusuf Abdul Raof reeled the lines of 224, 205 & 215 for a 644 series while anchorman, Kang Bo Long registered the lines of 205, 194 & 159 for a below par 558 series. Their 3 games series of 1810 earned themselves a 14th placing.

OUR YOUNG GIRLS CONTINUED TO SHOW THEIR POTENTIALS AS THE CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRESSED

Bowling in the Trios event this morning, Doubles Silver medalist, Jacqueline Sijore continued her prowess as she scorched the lanes to anchor our women's Trios in pursuit for a medal contention in the 1st Block of 3 games. Jacqueline fired a high 238 game followed by 206 and turbo-charged home with a immaculate 278 game for an outstanding 722 series, averaged 240.7. Southpaw Zatil Iman gave a subdued performance with lines of 179, 201 & 178 for a below par 558 series. Singles Silver medalist, Siti Shawani was also off beat to reel lines of 182, 202 & 195 for a 579 series. Our Trios total of 1859 earned themselves a fifth position standing behind leader Korea.
Malaysia second Trios (of Dayang Khairuniza, Siti Safiyah & Hee Kar Yen) position is just 1 mere pin behind own team-mates. Dayang Khairuniza gave an improved performance with lines of 213, 162 & 258 for a commendable 633 series. Doubles Silver medalist, Siti Safiyah registered the lines of 207, 203 & 214 for a 624 series whilst Hee Kar Yen bowled a par series of 601 with lines of 193, 224 & 184. Both our Trios are within distance for a championship medal when the 2nd block of 3 games resume tomorrow. Our Men's Trios in action later today are:- 1. Aaron Kong, Nur Aiman & Syafiq Ridhwan 2. Aris Ardila, Kang Bo Long & Yusuf Abd Raof.

ANOTHER SILVER LINING FOR MALAYSIA

A partnership of season campaigner Siti Safiyah and Debutant Back-Up Jacqueline Sijore gave Malaysia another Silver Medal on the 2nd day of the 21st Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship at Abu Dhabi in the Women’s Doubles event this morning. 19th year old Jacqueline from Sarawak started the event with a massive 269 and Siti Safiyah contributed with 212 for a combined 481 to lead the field of 32 Doubles pair after the first game. They slipped to 4th place after 2nd game when both bowled slightly lower the par on 199 & 191 for a combined 390. They bounced back from 3rd game with Jacqueline on 242 & Siti shot 223 for a combined 465 , and continued their consistency with 422, 399 and 481 for a total of 2638 to beat Indonesia by 52 pins for the Silver. Singapore’s Daphine Tan partnered with Bernice Lim took the Gold with 2703 while 3 Korean’s pair finished 4th, 5th and 6th with 2583 (3 pins from Bronze), 2558 & 2512.

Singles Silver Medalist Siti Shazwani, teamed up with another Sarawakian Back-up Dayang Khairuniza to finish a creditable 11th overall with 2470 total. Siti Shazwani bowled another good 6 games series with 1314, while Dayang managed only 1156. Siti Shazwani is standing 2nd in the All-Events after Singles & Doubles, just 19 pins behind leader Korean Hwang Sun-Ok with 2678 & 2697 respectively. Our 3rd pair of Zatil Iman and Hee Kar Yen ended 15th place with 2394.

Men's Singles @ ATBC 2011

Emulating the promising start of our women's bowlers, Malaysia's Aaron Kong gave a head start with an impressive 267 & 236 games to lead the strong field in the Men's Singles event this afternoon. As the event progressed, Aaron lost ground with lines of 206, 174 before revitalising his game of 247 & 223 for a commendable 1353 total to place 4th in his squad and subsequently ended up on 6th position in combined squad.
Southpaw, Nur Aiman who bowled in the 2nd squad experienced a similar trend setter when he fired a opening 248 & 223 games. Aiman then moved on to reel 190, 211, 237 & 185 (1294) to finish on 16th position overall.
Lanky Syafiq Ridhwan rigistered the lines of 224, 178, 184, 249, 218 & 204 for a 1257 total to finish on 29th position.
Making his debut, Kang Bo Long gave a decent performance with lines of 206, 187, 209, 183, before making a late rally with 232 & 230 for a 1247 total and earned a 34th placing.
Another young rookie, Yusuf Abdul Raof finished on 75th position with lines of 185, 161, 181, 215, 188 & 182 for a 1112 total.
Power pack Aris Ardila finished on 88th position with score of 194, 187, 168, 181, 145, & 187 for a 1062 total.

Promising Start for Team M'sia @ ATBC 2011


It was a promising start for Team Malaysiain the Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Unherald Siti Shazwani was firing on all cylinders as she blasted the lanes with lines of 248, 230, 256, 216, 225 to lead the field from the first game till the 5th game. In her last game, Siti Shazwani reeled off with a double strikes, then missed a single 7 pin before she bounced back with a strike. However, Siti encountered an identical split frames in her subsequent frames and returned with a 189 game for a 1364 total. Second placed Aussie challenger, Lexi Nicoll romped home with a high 259 game to snatch the Gold medal whilst 3rd placed Korea's Hwang Sun Ok stromed home to tie with Siti Shazwani for the Silver.
Debutant, Dayang Khairuniza made a late rally after her roller coaster series to finish on 13th position with lines of 160, 225, 159, 180, 256 & 248 for a 1228 total. Southpaw, Zatil Iman completed her event with lines of 195, 228, 202, 188, 200 & 179 for a 1192 total. Another debutant, Hee Kar Yen finished on 25th position with lines of 172, 174, 184, 239, 212 & 190 for a 1171 total. Rookie, Jacqueline Sijore finished on 30th position with score of 161, 182, 142, 235, 221 & 225 for a 1166 total. Siti Safiyah Amirah bowled below par to register the lines of 173, 185, 162, 214, 201 & 174 for a poor 1109 total.
At the time of writing, the 1st squad of Men's Singles just commenced where the following Malaysian are in action:- Aaron Kong, Aris Ardila, Kang Bo Long and Yusuf Abdul Raof.
Nur Aiman and Syafiq Ridhwan would be in action in the 2nd squad at 6:00pm local time.

It is all systems go for the 21st edition of the Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship at the Khalifa Bowling Centre in Abu Dhabi with opening ceremony, official practice and welcome dinner scheduled for today (Sunday)

A total of 108 men, 63 women and 69 officials from 20 countries have confirmed their participation for Championship, but conspicuously missing is Asian powerhouse South Korea.

Australia, Chinese Taipei, Iran, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and host United Arab Emirates have registered their full team of 6 men and 6 women while Hong Kong is represented by 6 men and 5 women.

The others - Bahrain have registered (6 men, 2 women), Indonesia (5 men, 5 women), India (6 men), Jordan (1 men), Kuwait (6 men), Macau (6 men), Pakistan (6 men), Philippines (3 men, 3 women), Qatar (6 men) and Thailand (3 men).

The missing of South Korea, many teams not having registered full squad, while many others have registered their younger players, could well reduce glamour and keen competitiveness of the championship.
Â
But it could well see some new bowlers rise to the occasion to make a name for themselves, while several teams could well be introducing their new national players as many are in the midst of changing the faces of their national team.

Malaysia is among the nations who have a mixed team of young bowlers and experienced.

The Malaysian team were among the early birds to arrive in Abu Dhabi on the 11th of January and have used their early arrival to get acclimatised to the cool weather conditions of 20 degrees celius.

The team has also had practice at the renovated and refurbished Khalifa Bowling Centre.

The Malaysian team is represented by Aaron Kong, Muhd Nur Aiman Khairuddin, Mohd Syafiq Ridhwan – three member of the Guangzhou Asian Games – and back-up bowlers Kang Bo Long, Aris Ardiala Santosoh and Yusuf Abdul Raof in the men’s team.

In the women’s team has no bowlers from the Asian Games squad with Siti Safiyah Amirah returning after recovering from injury to lead the team of Hee Kar Yen, Zatil Iman Abdul Ghani, Jacqueline Jenelee Sijore, Siti Shazwani Ahmad Suhaimi and Dayang Khairuniza Dhiyana.

The championship will officially roll off on Monday with the men and women’s singles events.
