Defending champion, Zandra Aziela Ibrahim Hakimi, successful defended her Malaysian International Open Bowling Championship Women Open Masters title and dedicated the title to her mother Zauyah Ahmad.

Zandra who became the first Malaysian women to win the Malaysian Open title back-to-back, defeated Singapore’s Shayna Ng 211-209 in the stepladder finals.

Shayna, the third seed had earlier qualified for the final as the challenger when she won in the semifinals with her score of 258 against second seed Tannya Roumimper from Indonesia’s 221 and fifth seed Singapore’s Ilma Nurjannah’s 205. Ilma had qualified for semifinals with her victory in the quarterfinals tie with her score of the 230 against fourth seed Singapore’s Daphne Tan (194) and sixth seed Jazreel Tan (205) also from Singapore.

“I wanted this victory so badly for two reasons. Firstly it was as a gift for my mother for Mothers Day and secondly, I had missed a back to back victory in 2008 when I lost to Jazreel in the final and wanted to achieve it this time around,” said Zandra who won the title in 2007.

“It is a very emotional victory for me and I am glad that I have achieved what I had set out to do,” said Zandra who broke down immediately after her victory.

"I only failed to fire a perfect game this round. But I came close to it when I hit 299 in my final game to finish as top seed for the step-ladder final," said Zandar who had a perfect games enroute to her titles in 2007 and last year.

For her triumph today, Zandra earned RM15,000 while Shayna pocketed RM10,000.

“It has been a great tournament and I hope to continue with my good form for the coming championships,” said Zandra who had six major titles last year and the current national number one woman bowler.
