Doubles gold medalists from left Syarifah Marissa & Victoria Chin (Selangor), Jonathan Ding Sagan & Christopher Tiong (Sarawak)
CHRISTOPHER Tiong survived a baptism of fire in his first Sukma as he clinched the bowling doubles gold medal for Sarawak with Jonathan Ding Sagan at the Kuantan Megalanes.
The 15-year-old marked a wonderful debut for Sarawak when he combined with Jonathan to knock down 2,585 pinfalls after six games.
It was very stressful, said Christopher, when asked to sum up his experience in fighting for the gold medal yesterday.
I never thought I could win the gold medal. Luckily, I had a lot of help from Jonathan, who is playing in his second Sukma this year.
Sarawak's second pair of Bong Kihow-Chong Jun Foo (2566) took the silver while Federal Territories' Mohd Rafiq Ismail-Tan Chye Chern (2531) settled for the bronze.
Meanwhile, the Selangor pair of Victoria Chin-Sharifah Marissa Syed Munawir denied Sarawak a chance for the double by clinching the women's gold medal.
Victoria-Marissa won the gold with 2,337 pinfalls. Negri Sembilan's Nur Amira Irdeena Mohd Rafi-Puteri Nadia Kamarul Mahadir (2321) took the silver medal while Sarawak's Dayang Aida Natasha Abang Jamalidon-Syazwani Sajeli finished third with 2,292 pinfalls.
