2nd Pesta Wilayah Day Bowling Championship

19 -  20 March 2011

Mega Lanes Kuala Lumpur, Endah Parade, Sri Petaling

The 2nd Pesta Wilayah Day bowling championship to be held over weekend at Endah Parade Mega Lanes Kuala Lumpur will serve as a selection for the physically challenged bowlers for three international championships this year. The Wilayah Day championship will see the first day on Saturday dedicated to the 70 pairs of physically challenged bowlers, while on Sunday will see the Masters Open category event held for 90 participants.

Steven Teng, the tournament director said that championship is unique because it caters for both the physically challenged and the normal bowlers. “This is indeed a unique tournament where we have bowlers from both categories competing in one championship and the comradeship shown between bowlers is something to be cherished,” said Teng who is also the coach of the national physically challenged team who competed in the Asian Para Games in Guangzhou last year.

“The response from both the physically challenged and the Open bowlers has been overwhelming. This championship held in conjunction of the Wilayah Day is indeed fast catching on among bowlers both from the Federal Territory and other States.” Teng said for the physically challenged bowlers this championship will serve as a selection process for three international tournaments namely the World International Blind Society Association (IBSA) championship to be hosted by Malaysia in October, the second Asia Pacific Countries (APC) Cup (date to be confirmed) and the Asean Para Games in Jakarta in November.

A total of 70 pairs of physically challenged bowlers will be competing in the vision impaired, amputee, wheelchair and little people categories. In the Open category the men and women will compete together with the women bowlers getting a 12 pin handicap. For both categories cash prizes and products from Canon and U Mobile will be offered.

The sponsors for the tournament besides Canon and U Mobile are 100Plus, Ambank, Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Mesuma.
