The 24th Sin Hup Huat Malaysian National Championship will be held for the first time in Penang from September 18 - 28 at Jaya Bowl, 1-Stop Midlands Park, Penang. More than 300 bowlers throughout the country will be participating in this annual tournament. This year's main sponsor is Sin Hup Huat. Co-sponsors are Land & General Berhad and Nestle Milo. The official hotel is Berjaya Georgetown Hotel.
The 13th Interstate Championship will be held from September 23 - 25 at the same venue. Ten States will be sending teams to participate in this annual championship. They are Johor, Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Penang, Perak, Sarawak and Selangor.
21st September, Penang - Donning Penang's colors, Gary Lim hit a perfect game of 300 pinfalls in his qualifying attempt. Playing at the 3.00pm time squad, Gary registered his first Perfect Game when he shot 12 consecutive strikes in the first game. Gary stand to win RM50,000 if there is no further Perfect Games being shot by other bowlers in the championship. If more than one bowlers manage to score a perfect game, the cash prize voucher will be shared equally by the achievers. The Perfect Game Award is sponsored by the management of Jaya Bowl Sdn Bhd.
Having accomplished the feat, Gary continued to bowl his qualifying attempt with a score line of 214, 190, 218, 217, 197, to total 1,336 pinfalls. With that score, he has moved into 2nd position in the Men's Open Masters qualifying table, behind leader and national kegler, Aaron Chin of Sarawak.

13TH MALAYSIAN INTERSTATE CHAMPIONSHIP 1999
After three days of intense competition in the 13th Malaysian Interstate Bowling Championship which ended on the 25th September, the 24th Sin Hup Huat Malaysian National championship resumed.
The Interstate saw many new talents and improvements from lesser known State bowlers although the powerful Selangor state still dominated the overall. For the first time, Johor emerged the overall champion in the Youth division with Sharon Chai, Choy Poh Lai, Tom Chia and David Lee. Together, they won 4 Gold medals with Sharon Chai contributing three from the All-Events and the Masters; and partnering Choy Poh Lai in the Girls' Doubles and from the Youth Team. On the other hand, Selangor dominated the Women and Men's division winning the overall Women's crown, overall Men's crown and the overall State champion challenge trophy.

MILO NATIONAL YOUTH MASTERS 1999
The Milo Youth Boys Open Masters was won by Selangor's Ang Kean Joo, a member of the National Youth Squad. He blasted the lanes with 2,344 over 10 games with an average of 234.4. Penang's Ch'ng Han Chye and Vincent Khoo finished 2md and 3rd respectively with 2,101 and 2,061.
The Milo Youth Boys' A division was won by Chan Cheok Yuan of Penang with 2,085. Alex Wan of Selangor came in 2nd with 1,889 and Voon Eng Mann 3rd with 1,849.
National Youth bowler, Nor Nazira ROsli of Kuala Lumpur scored her maiden win in the Milo Youth Girls Open Masters with 1,921 total, two pins ahead of Interstate's 4 Gold medallist Sharon Chai of Johor. Kedah's Low Shi Yeen finished 3rd with 1,849.
Selangor's 13 year-old Ester Cheah won her second title this year following her success in the SportExcel-NSC-Milo National Junior Circuit Penang leg three weeks ago. Ester averaged 175.8 to win the Mili Youth Girls' A division. Sarawak's Tang Joh Six was 2nd with 1,736 while Penang's Yeoh Kooi Chyn took 3rd place with 1,730.

OPEN MASTERS RESULTS (1st Block)
National bowlers dominated the first round of the Men and Women Open Masters Finals at Jaya Bowl this afternoon. World Cup bound Malaysia's representative, Kenny Ang despite being less familiar with the lanes after not participating in the 13th Interstate and arriving in Penang only on Saturday. He showed that he is still the best male bowler in the country by leading the field of 24 after the 1st Block of 10 games. Kenny accumulated 2,350 pinfalls to move into the 2nd Block. SEA Games Gold meallist, Ricky Chen is 130 pins behind Kenny in 2nd spot while fomer international Azidi Ameran is 3rd with 2,216. Also making the cut for the top 16 are SEA Games Gold medallist Pang Boon Say (4th), Ben Heng (6th), Gerald Samuel (7th), Perfect Game bowler Gary Lim (8th), Vincent Low (9th), Lai Chuen Lian (10th), Ooi Lai Beng (12th), Mustafa Yassin (13th) and Y.H. Ng (14th). The top 16 will play 15 round robin matchplay plus 1 position round game tomorrow to decide the new national champion.
Karen Lian, who won three Gold medals in the Interstate, topped the field of 12 finalsts in the Women division with 2,180 pinfalls. Thailand Masters Cup semi-finalist, Lai Kin Ngoh finished 2nd with 2,168 and Sharon Low is 3rd with 2,046. Lisa Liew who won the Interstate Singles Gold continues her form and is in 4th just one pin behind Sharon. World Cup bound representative Sarah Yap is 5th place with 2,012. OPEN MASTERS RESULTS (2nd Block)
National bowler Lai Chuen Lian became the youngest ever Malaysian National Champion in the Men's division when he clinched the Masters' title of the 24th Sin Hup Huat Malaysian National Championship at Jaya Bowl, Penang.
Chuen Lian, who will only turn 20 next month was in terrific form knocking down 3,694 pinfalls with 13 wins out of 16 matches giving him a total of 3,824 and averaging 230.8. Gerald Samuel who did well in the Thailand Masters Cup two and the 13th Interstate championship finished 2nd winning 10 out of 16 matches for a total of 3,679. Gerald posted an impressive scratch average of 223.68. Penang's spinner Azizan Hanif finished a creditable 3rd with 3,644 and a scratch average of 221.5.
World Cup bound Kenny Ang, who arrive only on Saturday, finished 4th with 3,510 and 213.2 scratch average. Kenny led the field in the 1st Block despite being not familiar with the lane condition at Jaya Bowl.
Malaysia Masters Cup winner Low Poh Lian added another cap to her string of titles by capturing for the first time, the National title defeating World Cup bound Sarah Yap by just 9 pins with a total of 3,147. Competition between the two heavy-ball right hander was close. In fact, Sarah's scratch total was one pin more than Poh Lian, but lost out on her match bonus of 80 against Poh Lian's 90. Sharon Low finished 3rd with 3,097 while Thailan Masters Cup semi finalist Lai Kin Ngoh took 4th spot with 3,033. Shalin Zulkifli did well despite her lack of training when she took her University examinations and only arrived on Saturday night. She finished 6th with 2,862.
National Coach Sid Allen was very pleased with the national bowlers' performances both in the Interstates and National Championship.
