The 4th Genting International Open will be held from May 6 - 16 at Genting Bowl, The Summit USJ, Subang USJ, Petaling Jaya. More than 400 bowlers from Australia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia will be participating in this prestigious annual championship. The world-class bowlers who have confirmed their participation are 34th AMF World Cup Champion, C.M. Yang of Chinese Taipei; Tom Hahl of Singapore; SEA Games Gold Medalists and winner of many championships in Malaysia, Jack Wong of Singapore; 16th Commonwealth Games 2-Gold Medalist and 22nd Land & General-MAS Malaysian Open women Masters champion, Maxim Nable from Australia; 13th Asian Games Masters Gold Medallist and champion of the Hong Masters Cup, Sunny Hui of Hong Kong; Asian Bowling Tour 1998 - Thailand Masters Cup champion Wanasiri D. of Thailand and Malaysia's 2-Gold Medalist, Kenny Ang of Malaysia, Asian Bowling Tour 1998 Grand Slam women champion, Sarah Yap and their teammates of the Malaysian national squad - Ben Heng, Daniel Lim, Alex Liew, Lai Chuen Lian, Mustafa Yassin, women defending champion Lai Kin Ngoh, Asian Bowling Tour 1999, Malaysia Masters Cup champion, Low Poh Lian, Shalin Zulkifli, Sharon Low and many more.
The main sponsor is Genting World Sdn Bhd and the co-sponsors are Coca-Cola, Nestle-Milo, Walls, Fuji Film, and Lipton Tea. The official carrier is Malaysia Airlines. Genting World is also sponsoring a Suzuki Motorcycle to the second bowler to score the perfect game.
The championship was declared opened by Y.Bhg. Dato' Dr. P.S. Nathan, President of Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress and Hon. President, World Tenpin Bowling Association.
