The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) announced today that there will be a pool of world-class bowlers participating in this year’s 25th Sports-Toto Malaysian International Open Bowling Championship 2002 from the 13th - 23rd March, 2002.
"The championship is being held at the Pyramid Mega Lanes, Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall, Sunway Lagoon Resorts which was the venue for CGU Asian Bowling Tour Grand Slam Finals 2001 event.
Current World Cup champions, World FIQ Ladies Masters champion, European and Asian Zone FIQ champions will be invited to participate. Our national bowlers, Ben Heng, the Commonwealth Games Doubles Gold medalist and 21st SEA Games two Gold medalist, Shalin Zulkifli, four Gold medalist at the 21st SEA Games and winner of the CGU Asian Bowling Tour Thailand leg champion and Lai Kin Ngoh, 21st SEA Games Women Masters Gold medalist, Commonwealth Games Singles Silver medalist, Asian Bowling Tour 1998 Grand Slam Finals champion, Sarah Yap will be pitching their skills againgst these world-class bowlers on home ground.
The championship’s main sponsor is Sports-Toto; joint-sponsor is Sunway Lagoon Resorts; Youth Masters sponsor is Nestle Products Sdn Bhd (Milo); co-sponsors are Pyramid Megalanes, Storm Products Inc., and Consolidated Farms. The CGU Asian Bowling Tour 2002 first leg, the Malaysia Leg will be held on the 24th - 25th March, 2002.
The top 14 Asian men and women bowlers from each Open Men and Ladies Masters event of the 25th Malaysian Open will qualify for the Leg. Each participant will earn Tour Ranking points according to their positions.
Proton Vintage Classic Car TD2000 worth RM190,000 will be awarded to the first bowler to score a perfect game, sponsored by EON (Malaysia) Berhad.
RM 50,000.00 Cash Award will be awarded to bowler(s) who score a perfect game(s), sponsored by CGU Insurance. The RM50,000 Cash Award shall be shared if more than one bowler scores a perfect game of 300 during the 25th Sports Toto Malaysian Int'l Bowling Championship.
For Men bowlers aged 48 & above (with average of 195 & below) and Women bowlers aged 45 & above (with average of 185 & below) as at January 1, 2002.
Walk-in Finals on March 17 (Monday) at 7.00pm (Check-in: 6.30pm)
Registration is required with Entry Fee RM 180.00 (Men), RM 150.00 (Women)
Closing Date : March 16
6 Games roll-off in the Finals with no handicap.
