Fifth National title for Shalin, second for Daniel

3rd February, Ipoh: Defending champion, Shalin Zulkifli won her fourth consecutive National title of the 29th Malaysian National CHampionship which ended this afternoon while 2002 champion, Daniel Lim captured his second.

The 26-year-old Universiti Malaya undergraduate, who led the first block yesterday won her fifth title with a comfortable margin fo 211 pins ofer the 16-game finals with a total of 3424. Second place went ot Penang's Lai Kin Ngoh with a score of 3213 while Commonwealth Youth Games Gold medalist, Zandra Aziela finished third with 3172.

Shalin's first title came at the age of 14 when she became the youngest-ever to be crwoned national champion in 1992 and the Malaysian queen of bowling has created history again by winning the title for the fourth consecutive time.

Wendy Chai stormed home to take up fourth with 3169 after being finishing 7th overnight followed by Selangor's Christyn Chew in fifth with 3159.

The Men's national title went to 2002 champion, Daniel Lim with a score of 3570. Lim, who was led the first block with 131 pins, stretched his lead until the end of the 16 games finals with 151 pins margin. Second spot went to Aaron Kong of Penang, who amassed 3419 while ex-national, Lim Fung Jung did well to take third place with 3267.

Perfect game shooter, Eric Ang of Penang finished fourth with 3225 ahead of 2003 National champion, Zulmazran Zulkifli in fifth place with 3207. Defending champion, Jonathan Lim of Sarawak ended up in sixth position with 3206.

Siti Khadijah, Eric Chai claims Milo Youth Masters titles

3rd February, Ipoh: Malaysian Interstate four-Gold medalist, Siti Khadijah of Selangor was on a roll this morning to claim the Milo Youth Girl's Open Masters title of the 29th Malaysian National Bowling Championship while Perak's Eric Chai took the Boy's crown.

Khadijah, who had won the Singles, Doubles, Team and All Events Gold medal in the Interstate Championship two days ago, took the title with a score of 1988. Her closest rival and teammate, Amalyna Kelana settled for second, just 15 pins adrift followed by Johor's Nur Syakirah Yeoh in third with 1941.

There was a keen tussle for the lead throughout the 10-game finals with Kuala Lumpur's Yap Pui Yee leading the field for a brief moment before the champion shot to the lead at the halfway mark. Hot on her heels was last night's Ladies Graded Masters champion, Amalyna. Both scored low games in the final 10th game and fortunately they had built up a sufficient margin to finish ahead of their opponents.

Yap ended up in fourth with 1896 followed by Penang's Fatin Syazliana in fifth position on 1895. Another Kuala Lumpur youth and Nationa youth squad member, Sharon Koh took sixth spot with 1883.

Local favourite, Eric Chai bagged the Milo Youth Masters Boy's division when he amassed a total of 2051 for host, Perak. Despite ending the 10-game finals with 179 in his last game, Chai were able to take the title with a 36 pins margin over Team Gold medalist, Issaac Russell of Sarawak, who accummulated 2015 for second.

GP Finals Champion, Muhd Nur Aiman of Johor settled for third position after he totalled 2004 ahead of Sabah's Muhd Zaim Said in fourth place with 1988. Early pace-setter, Eric Lim of Perak ended up in fifth place with 1960.

closest rival Lai Kin Ngoh of Penang with Sarah Yap in third in the first block yesterday. The win will also be the fifth time the 26-year-old has won the national title. Shalin was first crowned when she was 14 years-old.

2002 National champion, Daniel Lim stands a good chance of winning the title for the second time after he took the lead in the first block yesterday with a 131 pins ahead of Zaid Izlan in second and Aaron Kong in third.

Kuala Lumpur dominates Men's Graded Masters finals

2nd February, Ipoh: Kuala Lumpur dominated the Men's Graded Masters fianls of the 29th Malaysian National Bowling Championship with the top three positions going to K.H. Lim, Sufian Othman and S.T. Pank which ended at Ampang Superbowl, Ipoh Parade.

Lim of Kuala Lumpur, had a slightly slow start to his campaign after trailing early pace-setter and Interstate Men's All Events Silver medalist, Peter Pu of Sarawak. But Lim slowly made up grounds to narrow the gap at the halfway mark. A superb third and fourth series saw the champion taking over the lead and eventually the title with 2448.

2nd Pahang Open Graded Masters, Sufian Othman, who stayed with the leaders throught the 12-game finals, could not topple Lim after managing only 171 and 190 in his last two games and a total of 2405 while Lim brought home 216 and 217 in 11th and 12th game.

Veteran, S.T. Pank and former Interstate bowler, too had a poor start but fought on galantly to salvage a third place finishing with 2364.

In the Ladies' divison, Interstate Youth Girls Team Gold medalist, Amalyna Kelana won her first major title after she amassed 2274 to capture the Ladies' title. Ex-international Shirley Chow proved a handful against her younger opponents to finish second with 2230.

Rosnani Azizan of Kuala Lumpur scored 221 in her 12th for a total of 2195 to snatch third place from Sabah's Trish Khoo, who settled for fourth position with 2167. 5th Milo International Junior All Stars Girls Graded champion, Ili Syazana made up the top 5 with 2082.

The Girls and Boys Open Masters wi be pplayed in the morning at 9.00am after which the Men's and Ladies' Open will continue their second block of 8 games ending this year's championship.

Champions outclassed field for first block lead

2nd February, Ipoh: Four-time National Champion, Shalin Zulkifli looked set to winning her fourth consecutive national title as she led the Ladies' Open Masters first block Masters finals of the 29th Malaysian National Bowling Championship while former national champion, Daniel Lim led the Men's division.

Shalin, who won four Gold medals in the 18th Malaysian Interstate championship which ended yesterday, was in a class of her own. She started off with lines of 221, 216, 246 for a superb 683 series for an early lead. The 26-year-old built-up a unsurmountable lead at the halfway mark before rounding off to a comfortable 150 pins margin and a total 8-game score of 1785.

"I made all the right changes according to the varying conditions across the lanes we were bowling on and I was able to maintain my consistency throughout the first block," said Shalin at the end of the finals. "I had three different types of bowling balls to suit the lanes and that has help me alot."

Interstate Singles event behind Shalin, again trailed the leader with 1635 while Sarah Yap finished third with 1566. 14-year-old 5th Milo International Junior All Stars champion, Siti Safiyah Amirah and Commonwealth Youth Games Gold medalist tied for fourth positions with 1562.


Meanwhile in the Men's division, 2002 National champion, Daniel Lim was on a roll after he amassed a total of 1789 for a 131-pin lead over his nearest rival, Zaid Izlan. The three Gold medalist in the Interstate championship took over the lead after the 4th game from defending champion, Jonathan Lim and never looked back thereafter.

15-year-old national youth, Zaid Izlan stromed home to finish second with 1658 wih 5th Milo International Junior All Stars champion, Aaron Kong in third spot with 1623. Pace-setter, Jonathan Lim ended up in fourth place with 1604 ahead of 2001 national champion, Zulmazran Zulkifli in fifth spot with 1596.

All the 21 Men and 15 Ladies Open Masters finalists will contest the second block of 8 games tomorrow (3rd February) when the 2004 National Champion will be crowned. The Ladies' and Men's Graded Masters finals will be played later this evening.

Desmond, Nadiah bags Milo Youth Graded Masters title

2nd February, Ipoh: Desmond Yong of Perak and Nadiah Wagiman of Sarawak bagged the Milo Youth Boy's and Girls Graded Masters titles of the 29th Malaysian National Bowling Championship this morning at Ampang Superbowl, Ipoh Parade.

The 19-year-old Desmond, started off moderately in stay in contention midfield after the first series of 3 games but soon caught up with the leaders at the halfway mark in fourth. A strong final series gave the champion a total of 1898 and first-ever title since taking up the game 4 years ago.

Second spot went to Rafiq Azri of Selangor, who knocked down 1884 for the 10-game finals, 14 pins adrift the Desmond with Penang's Jason Yam in third place with 1878.

Early pace-setters, Mohd Haikal Downs, also of Johor settled for fourth with Syed Muzzafar of Pahang rounding up the top 5.

In the Youth Girls Graded division, Nadiah Bte Wagiman hung to a slender lead going into the last game to win the title with a score of 1880. Nadiah built up more than 100 pins lead after a superb start with lines of 200, 241, 198 and 200. The champion still had some cushion despite posting three low games. But she soon recovered to stay in the lead and came home with the well-deserved title.

"I am very happy to tak my first-ever win since taking up the sport and I dedicate this win to my father, wh is the team manager for Sarawak for the Interstate championship," said Nadiah, who is waiting for her STPM results.

1st February, Ipoh: National keglers, Azidi Ameran and Choy Poh Lai sits comfortably in pole positions of the Men's and Ladies' Open Masters qualifying table of the 29th Malaysian National Bowling Championships on the final day of qualifying.

Silver medalist in the Men's Team event of the 18th Malaysian Interstate championship which ended yesterday, Azidi took to the lanes this morning at the 11.00am squad to record lines of 228, 193, 248 and 236 for a total of 905 to take over the lead of the Men's Open Masters qualifying table.

"I have been working on a different technique for the past week and it gave the scores I need to make the finals," said the 35-year-old Azidi. "I will be hoping to perfect this new technique to help me do well in the finals."

Overnight leader and ex-international, Lim Fung Jung of Pahang knocked down 881 and dropped to second while Boy's Singles Gold medalist, Eric Ang of Penang lies third in the table with 878.

National kegler and southpaw, Ben Heng and Boy's Doubles Gold medalist, Zaid Izlan made up the top 5 in fourth and fifth positions with 862 and 846 respectively.


In the ladies' division, national bowler, Choy Poh Lai topped the table with a score of 848 followed by Commonwealth Youth Games Masters Gold medalist, Esther Cheah in second with 817 while ex-national, Vivien Khoo of Penang is third with 811.

National Youth, Sharon Koh of Kuala Lumpur is fourth with 804 while Youth Girls Team Gold medalist, Christyn Chew finished fifth with 795.

Qualifying continues through to this evening at 11.00pm where the defending champion, top 17 Men's Open plus the top 3 Interstate All Events will contest the Masters finals over two blocks of 8 games on the 2nd and 3rd February, both at 1.00pm. Likewise, the defending champion, top 8 Ladies' Open plus the top 3 Interstate All Events will make the finals to be played at the same time.

31st January, Ipoh: National kegler, Choy Poh Lai of Johor took over the lead of the Ladies' Open Masters qualifying table of the 29th Malaysian National Bowling Championship as it moves into the last day of qualifying at Ampang Superbowl, Ipoh Parade.

The 23-year-old from Johor, who is not participating in the on-going 18th Malaysian Interstate Championship running concurrently, had time to take to the lanes to record lines of 201, 233, 198 and 216 to post a total of 848 for the lead. Her score was her third attempt after taking a rest while the Interstate championship is going on.

Ex-national, Vivien Khoo, a Gold medalist in the 2002 SUKMA Games in Penang, dropped one rung to second on a score of 811 while 32nd Penang Pesta Youth Girls Open champion, Sharon Koh took third spot with 804. Another National kegler, Charlotte Sak occupied fourth spot with 794 followed by ABF Tour Hong Kong leg runner-up, Tang Joh Six of Sarawak rounded up the top 5 with 777.

There is no change in the Men's Open division with Eric Ang maintaining his lead in the qualifying table with 878. Southpaw, Ben Heng was second with 862 ahead of Boy's Doubles Gold medalist, Zaid Izlan in third with 846.

The scores will get significantly higher when the Interstate Championship ends tonight. Most of the participants will then make their last minute bid to make the Masters finals. The qualifiers will be joined by the top 3 All Events winners of the Interstate Championship from the four categories.

National keglers, Shalin Zulkifli of Selangor and Jonathan Lim of Sarawak are the defending champions in the Ladies and Men's Open divisions.

Johor emerges as Inter Association Champion

28th January, Ipoh: Johor's Mohammad Firdaus, Fakhri Azam and Wan Muhd Yusof emerged the champions of the special Inter Association event held for team officials of on-going 29th Malaysian National and 18th Interstate Bowling Champioships.

In the three-game event, Johor won with a total score of 1656 ahead of Team Sarawak in second with 1603 while host, Perak settled for third spot with 1522. Firdaus knocked down 517 with Fakhri Azam scored 546 and Wan Muhd Yusof totalled 593 to help his team to the win.

Second-placed, Team Sarawak were made up of Khairul Hisham, Wagiman Kassim and Gary Wee while Ahmad Haridan, Khairul Faizi and Jasni Bin Jafaar competed for Perak to take third position. Perlis and Selangor officials finished fourth and fifth positions repectively.

Meanwhile, there is very little change happening to the qualifying table of the 29th Malaysian National Championship as teams are busy with their preparation of the 18th Interstate Championship which will start proper tomorrow (Saturday, 29th January).

National Youth, Eric Ang of Penang continued to lead the Men's Open Masters table with a score of 878 after scoring the tournament's first perfect game on Wednesday, 26th January. National kegler, Ben Heng, who is not taking part in the interstate championship, took second spot with a score of 862 while Commonwealth Youth Games Gold medalist, Zaid Izlan finished third with 803. Sarawak's Jonathan Lim is the defending champion.

In the women's division, ex-national, Vivien Khoo also maintained the lead she held since Day 1 of the championship with a score of 811 followed by 32nd Penang Pesta Youth Girl's Open champion, Sharon Koh of Kuala Lumpur in second with 804. Selangor's Siti Khadijah took third spot in the table with 765.

The National team is in full force for this championship but are putting focus on doing well for their respective states before making their attempts when the Interstate championship ends on Monday, 31st January.

Perak youths dominate Peter Yap's Memorial Cup event

27th January, Ipoh: Perak youths dominated the Peter Yap's Memorial Cup this evening at Ampang Superbowl when 13-year-old Sin Li Jane and 14-year-old Amirul Dinie captured the Boy's and Girl's title.

Sin Li Jane, a student of SMJK Ave Maria Convent her in Ipoh, captured the title with a score of 558 with lines of 178, 177 and 203 in the three-game event. Sin, who is representing host state, Perak in the coming 18th Malaysian Interstate Bowling Championship which will commence on Friday, 29th January, will be hoping to maintain her form to do well.

A member of the National Youth has been bowling for 5 years and her best achievement so far was winning the Gold medal in the Girl's Team event in last year's Interstate championship in Petaling Jaya. Siti Nur Nadia of Penang finished second with a score of 520 with Emma Maria of Perak in third position with 517.

Meanwhile, local lad, Amirul Dinie, a 14-year-old SMK Methodist ACS Ipoh student, was a class above a field of 32 under-14 year olds. Amirul started off with a high game of 269, followed by 188 and despite a lowly

146, the champion was still 23 pins ahead of his nearest rival. He took his first ever title since taking up the game 3 years ago and was a AAA-level National Youth Development trainee.

Pahang's Youth Boy representative in the Interstate Championship, Jonathan Chan settled for second with 570 while another local lad, Equine Lam, younger brother of national bowler, Elaine Lam, finished third with 560.

A total of 60 youths took part in this year's Peter Yap's Memorial Cup held in Ipoh since its inception in 1997. Nestle (MILO) Products Sdn Bhd is the main supporter and sponsor of this unique event.

27th January, Ipoh: National Youth, Eric Ang of Penang shot a perfect game on his first attempt en-route to taking the lead in the Men's Open Masters qualifying table of the 29th Malaysian National Championship underway at Ampang Superbowl.

The 17-year-old MILO International Junior AllStars runner-up, hopes to make amends after loosing to national kegler, Aaron Kong in the stepladder finals in December, 2004. Ang started with 195 in the first game of the 4-game qualifying round and then went into top gear to string together 12 consecutive strikes in his second game to shoot the first perfact game of the championship. Although there is no perfect game award in this championship, Ang still got the jitters with 158 in the third game. However, he soon recovered to finish off with 225 in the final game for a total of 878.

"This is my fifth perfect game in an official championship since taking up the sport eight years ago," said Ang. "It is very unfortunate that each time I hit the perfect game, there is no award but I hope that perhaps one fine day, I can repeat this feat and win something." Apart from the lead in the Men's Open division, Ang also lead the Boy's Open division with 796.

National kegler, Zulmazran Zulkifli took to the lanes when he arrive Ipoh to score 794 in his first attempt and is lying in second while Mohd Nadri did not got acustomed to the conditions yet and only manage 685.

Meanwhile, the Team Managers' meeting was held at Hotel Syuen where 14 participating States for this year's 18th Malaysian Interstate Championship where lane were drawn for the participants in the Singles, Doubles and Team of 4 events. A total of 56 Men, 48 Women, 56 Boys and 40 Girls will commence competition on Friday, 29th January with the Singles event. The Doubles and Team of 4 events will be contested on 30th and 31st January.

The official Opening Ceremony will be held at Dewan Banquet, S.U.K. in Ipoh tomorrow evening and will be attended by Perak State dignitaries, officials and participants.

At the end of the Interstate Championships, the bowlers will remain in Ipoh to continue their last day of qualifying on the 1st February. The Masters finals will be held on the 2nd and 3rd February when the National Champions will be crown. Shalin Zukifli, four-time national champion and Jonathan Lim of Sarawak, will be defending their titles.
