Malaysia, Singapore youth takes honours

14th December, P.Jaya: National Youth, Adrian Ang became the first Malaysian male bowler to win the prestigious 4th Milo International Junior All Stars title while Singapore's Valerie Teo triumphed in the Girl's division.

Adrian, a 15 year-old and a form four student from Penang, led the field of 32 finalists at the end of 12 games total as top-seed for the stepladder finals. Adrian started with a double-strike and then consistently getting his ball into the 1-3 pocket to knock down either strikes or 9-pins count to end up 225-204 to take his major international title and a handsome pay cheque of RM10,000.

"I am very happy to have won the All Stars," said the beaming Adrian after his winning match. "I've been bowling well throughout the finals and I was full of confidence going into the stepladder," added the champion. Yannaphon on the other hand was not able to string together strikes except once to concede the defeat.

National bowler Choy Poh Lai could have given Malaysia a double after winning the first Girl's Open stepladder match knocking off top-seed Valerie Teo of Singapore 174-136 to force a sudden death game. Both Poh Lai and Valerie were struggling to find their line when both had their first frame opened.

Poh Lai missed pin 10 in the second frame while Valerie truck twice to take the lead. It was a close fight between the two when Poh Lai by briefly by 8 pins till the 9th frame when Valerie kicked clear with a double strikes to eventually win the title and RM5,000 prize money.

Poh Lai had earlier won the first match with a superb 242 ousting Malaysia's 14 year-old Siti Safiyah (186) and Korea's World Championship Gold Medalist Kim Hyo-Mi (207).

Penang's Adrian Charles Dragon won the Boys' Graded Masters title with 1948 total followed by National Youth Tengku Afnan of Kedah in 2nd with 1940 and Kenson Low of Kuala Lumpur in 3rd with 1934.

Girl's Open 3nd-runnerup, Siti Safiyah won the Girl's Graded Masters crown with 1928 with Johor's Wan Nur Atiqqa in 2nd with 1914 while Shah Alam's Mardyanna Amin finished 3rd with 1837.

MILO is the main and title sponsor of the International Junior All Stars which is in its 4th year. The Organiser has announced that the 2004 edition will see an increase in the prize money thanks to the bowlers from overseas who have given very strong support with their participation annually.

13th December, P.Jaya: Malaysia's Fahmi Bahri and Singapore's Jasmine Yeong Nathan took the Boy's and Girl's Under-15 Masters title of the 4th Milo International Junior All Stars this morning at Pyramid Megalanes.

The 15 year-old Johorean, Fahmi scored 1195 over the 6-game Under-15 Boy's Masters finals to capture his first-ever title from Todsaphon T. from Thailand in second with 1174 followed by Chinese Taipei's Ernie Cheng in third with 1159.

Aloysius Goh from Singapore finished a distant 4th with 1117 while Hong Kong's Michael Tsang did well to take 5th spot on a score of 1105. Local favourite Mohd Fahd settled for 7th with 1088 behind 6th-placed Mohd Khusairi from Perak on 1096.

Last year's winner, Gerald Yuen (1077) from Singapore finished 9th with Johor's Muhd Nur Aiman (1086) in 8th while Indonesia's David Candra (1068) completed the top 10.

Singapore's Jasmine Yeong Nathan upset the favourites to take the Girl's Under-15 title with an impressive score of 1142. She finished 35 pins ahead of 2nd-placed Nadya Izzati from Kedah, who downed 1097. Third place went to another Singaporean, Jazreel Tan who scored 1077.

Malaysia's Saw Bee Gek from Penang Megalanes took 4th with 1064 followed by Low Xin Pin of Kuala Lumpur 5th with 1059.

With the qualifying moving into the final day before the Masters tomorrow, there were no changes in the top three positions of the Boy's Open division. Thailand's Yannaphon Larpapharat continued to lead with 927 followed by Chinese Taipei's Huang Teng Wai in 2nd with 903 while Malaysia's Mohd Nadri took 3rd spot with 901.

In the Girl's Open, the top two places remained unchanged with Singapore's Valerie Teo still leading the pack with 871 followed by Pyramid Youth and member of the national backup squad, Zandra Aziela in 2nd with 857. Newly crowned Girl's Under-15 champion, Jasmine Yeong Nathan (841) snatched 3rd place from Asian Schools Masters Silver medalist, Esther Cheah, who scored 836.

The scores are up to 10.00am 13th December, 2003. Qualifying continues through to 11.00pm tonight and the Masters finals will be played on tomorrow, Sunday 14th December, 2003.

12th December, P.Jaya: 10th Singapore Schools triple Gold medalist, Valerie Teo from Singapore and Tahiland's Yannaphon Larpapharat maintained pole positions of the 4th Milo International Junior All Stars Masters qualifying table.

Valerie, the 17 year-old Singaporean, who finished 1st runner-up in 6th Cathay Bowl Junior Classic last year, pulled out the World Championship in September to concentrate on her 'O' Level examinations. She now has time to re-train and will be hoping to do well. Valerie, who scored 871, maintained the lead she took yesterday from local favourite and a member of the national backup squad, Zandra Aziela. Zandra's score of 857 put her in second ahead of another Singapore girl, Jesmine Yeong Nathan in 3rd spot with 841.

Dropping to 4th was Asian Schools Masters Silver medalist, Esther Cheah on 837 with World Championship Team Gold medalist, Choy Poh Lai taking 5th place with 825.

Graded division, also made the Girl's Open finals in 6th on 813 while four Singaporeans, Low Xin Lian (800), Michelle Kwang (794), Geraldine Ng (791) and Ong She-Na (788) finished in the top 10 from 7th to 10th positions respectively.


Meanwhile, World Youth Singles Gold medalist, Yannaphon Larpapharat from Thailand also maintained his lead in the Boy's Open Masters qualifying leaderboard with a score of 927. Storming into 2nd spot came Chinese Taipei's Huang Teng Wai with a superb 903 pushing early leader and Santa Claus Open champion, Mohd Nadri into 3rd on 901.

Asian Schools Masters Gold medalist, Aaron Kong settled for 4th place with 877 followed by his national backup squad teammate, Zaid Izlan for Pyramid Youth in 5th with 875.

Newcomer, Mohd Rifdi from Kedah took over the lead in the Boy's Graded division with 852 pushing down Chan Weng Cheong into 2nd on 847 while Singapore's Hairul Azmi took 3rd with 830. Penang's Syawaliza Rosli continued to lead the Girl's Graded division with a superb 786 from Sarawak's Nor Rashidah in second with 767 followed by Indonesia's Shalima Zalsha in 3rd just 4 pins away on 763.

The scores are up to 6.00pm 12th December, 2003. Qualifying continues through to Saturday 13th December and the Masters finals will be played on Sunday 14th December, 2003.

11th December, P.Jaya: The lead of almost all the divisions changed hands as Thailand's Yannaphon Larpapharat and Singapore's Valerie Teo took pole positions of the 4th Milo International Junior All Stars championship.

Leading the Boy's Open division was World Youth Singles Gold medalist, Yannaphon Larpapharat from Thailand who scored 927 this afternoon to take over the pole position from early leader and Santa Claus Open champion, Mohd Nadri of Malaysia who dropped to 2nd.

National backup squad members and Asian Schools Masters Gold medalist, Aaron Kong also dropped one spot to 3rd with 877 together with Zaid Izlan of Pyramid Youth team in 4th with 875.

Aloysius Goh from Singapore stormed into 5th spot just one from Zaid on 874 while Singapore's Jeremy Goh and Penang's Adrian Ang shared 6th positions another single pin away on 873. Jonas Jason Baltasar (867) of the Philippines and Malaysia's Mohd Noer Said (866) completed the top 10.

Triple Gold medalist of the Singapore 10th National Schools championship, Valerie Teo snatched the lead after scoring 871 from local favourite, Zandra Aziela. The 15 year-old member of the national backup squad was pushed down to second with 857 followed by Asian Schools Masters Silver medalist, Esther Cheah in 3rd with 836.

In the Boy's Graded division, Selangor's Chan Weng Cheong continued to lead with 847 with newcomer, Kurtwin Low of Kuala Lumpur in 2nd with 815. Third spot went to Muhd Fahd with 801.

Another newcomer, Syawaliza Rosli from Penang Mega Lanes stormed into the lead of the Girl's Graded division with a superb 786 from Sarawak's Nor Rashidah in second with 767 followed by Indonesia's Shalima Zalsha in 3rd just 4 pins away on 763.

Chinese Taipei's Ernie Cheng grabbed the limelight in the Boy's Under-15 when he downed 854 and 213.5 average to take the lead from 15 year-old Mohd Nur Aiman from Johor with 835. Third went to Penang's Adrian Charles Dragon on 809. Singapore's Jazreel Tan maintained her lead in the Girl's Under-15 her score of 733. Anith Aqilah of Kuala Lumpur and Nadya Izzati from Kedah finsihed 2nd and 3rd with 711 and 710 respectively.

The scores are up to 6.00pm 11th December, 2003. Qualifying continues through to Saturday 13th December and the Masters finals will be played on Sunday 14th December, 2003.

10th December, P.Jaya: Local youths Zatil Iman and Chan Weng Cheong from Selangor took the lead of the Girl's and Boy's Graded Masters qualifying table of the 4th Milo International Junior All Stars championship at Pyramid Megalanes.

The 15 year-old Zatil, who finished 4th in three of this year's Junior Circuit and won the Johor leg scored 735 to take the lead from Nady Izzati from Kedah. Izzati occupied 2nd spot with 724 followed by Melaka's Lye Siew Lih in 3rd with 720.

Meanwhile, Chan Weng Cheong, also from Selangor topped the Boy's Graded division with a score 847 ahead of Kuala Lumpur's Muhd Fahd in second with 801 with Jeremy Mun in 3rd with 799.

Singapore youths dominated the Under-15 category by taking the top spots in both the Boy's and Girl's division. Jazreel Tan lead with 733 for an impressive 183.25 for an Under-15 year-old in the Girl's division while Gerald Yuen took the pole position of the Boy's table with 792 and an average of 198.

There was no change in the Boy's Open division with Santa Claus Open champion and national kegler, Mohd Nadri still leading with 901 followed by Asian Schools Masters Gold medalist, Aaron Kong from Penang in 2nd with 877. Third spot went to 15 year-old Zaid Izlan with a score of 875. Yang Nien-Hua of Chinese Taipei, who arrived with a group of youths yesterday, is defending the title he won last year.

The lead in the Girl's Open division also remained unchanged with national backup squad member and bowling for Pyramid Megalanes Youth team, Zandra Aziela of Selangor. She maintained the lead with 857 ahead of Asian Schools Masters Silver medalist, Esther Cheah in second with 836. Third spot went to Singapore's Valerie Teo with a score of 816. World Championship Team Gold medalist, Sharon Chai is the Girl's Open defending champion.

9th December, P.Jaya: National bowler, Zandra Aziela and Santa Claus Open champion Mohd Nadri topped the Girl's and Boy's Open Masters qualifying table of the 4th Milo International Junior All Stars at Pyramid Megalanes.

Zandra, the 17 year-old member of the National backup squad and winner of two Sportexcel-NSC-Milo Junior Circuit legs this year, scored 857 to top the Girl's Open Masters qualifying table yesterday.

Zandra was followed by Asian Schools Silver medalist, Esther Cheah from Selangor, Malaysia with 836 while Sportexcel-NSC-Milo Junior Circuit 2003 GP Finals Girl's Graded champion, Siti Safiyah finished third on 813.

National youth members, Yap Pui Yee from Kuala Lumpur came in 4th with 782 followed by 2003 GP Finals Girl's Open champion and Pyramid Youth member, Christyn Chew in 5th with 775 while Nur Syakirah Yeoh took 6th spot with 769.

18 year-old Mohd Nadri, who won the Santa Claus Open title last month and scored a perfect game in the Hong Kong Open last week, continued his fine form to knock down 901 to take the lead immediately on his return from Hong Kong. Nadri had lines of of 232, 257, 189 and 223 to top the Boy's Open Masters qualifying table.

National backup squad members, Aaron Kong from Penang and Selangor's Zaid Izlan were 2nd and 3rd in the table with 877 and 875 respectively. Another national backup squad member, Mohd Noer of Sabah took 4th spot with 866 followed closely by Melaka's Adrian Loh on 859 and Jonathan Lim on 808 for 5th and 6th places.

Meanwhile, Selangor's Chan Weng Cheong took pole position in the Boy's Graded division with 847 followed by Jeremy Mun from K.Lumpur with 800 while 3rd place went to Johor's Muhd Nur Aiman on 783. Nadya

Izzati from Kedah took the top position of the Girl's Graded qualifying table with 724 closely followed by Lye Siew Lih from Melaka in 2nd on 720 and Mardyanna Amin of Megalanes Shah Alam in 3rd with 698.

Youth from Chinese Taipei have just arrived and will be taking to the lanes later today with a strong team from Singapore scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Bowlers from neighbouring Sarawak and Sabah will arrive tomorrow.

6th December, P.Jaya: Ong Boon Hock from Melaka captured the Opening 9 Pintap event of the 4th Milo International Junior All Stars underway at Pyramid Megalanes with Selangor's Jason Tan in second and Melaka's Jarret Koh third.

Ong, the 1st runner-up of the Sportexcel-NSC-Milo Junior Circuit Johor leg this year, had lines of 278, 231, 288 for a total score of 797 to claim the title. The win made up for the disappointment Ong had in the GP Finals in August. In second spot was Selangor's Jason Tan who downed 786 while third place went to Melaka's 17 year-old Jarret Koh just three pins behind Jason on 783.

Jeremy Mun finished 4th with 773 followed by Selangor's Brian Lee in 5th with 743 while another youth from Melaka, Khoo Teck Kim in 6th with 730.

Mohd Huzaily (727), Adrian Loh (723), Kelvin Keong (721) and Christyn Chew (718) completed the top 10 from 7th to 10th respectively.

The qualifying for the Masters finals had started today and will run through to Saturday 13th December. The 4th Milo International Junior All Stars is a favourite junior championship for youth bowlers in the Asian Zone since its inception four years ago. The championship is sponsored by Nestle (Milo) Products and Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre and is sanctioned by Asian Bowling Federation.
