12th December, P.Jaya: For the first time in its five-year history of the Milo International Junior All Stars Bowling Champion, Malaysian displayed dominance by capturing both the Boy's and Girl's Open Masters titles which ended this evening. |
 |
 |
National kegler, Aaron Kong brought home six strikes-in-row to defeat top-seed and teammate, Eric Ang in the sudden-death roll-off to win his first major title. The pre-U student of Bukit Jalil Sports School and runner-up in the recent Hong Kong Open forced Ang into the decider after winning the first match 247-227.
Two open frames in the third and fourth almost handed the title to Ang, but the champion displayed courage and determination to string together six strikes to take the crucial match, 221-194 and the top prize of RM15,000.
Kong almost won the RM50,000 perfect game award when he reeled off 11 strikes in the third game of the 12-game finals, only to see a stuborn pin-10 wabbling and refuse to fall. |
 |
 Aaron Kong's win is worth RM15,000 |
"After the near-perfect game miss, I was still nervous and my legs were shaking," said the champion. "I guess I am meant to win the Masters title and RM15,000 instead of the RM50,000."
In the first stepladder match amongst second-seed, Choi Bok-Eum of Korea and third-seed Mohd Nadri of Malaysia, Ang shot 192 to knock out Nadri (167) and Choi (176) for the final match with top-seed Ang. |
In the Girl's division, newly crowned Commonwealth Youth Games Masters Gold medalist, Esther Cheah only needed a spare in her final frame of the second sudden-death match against top-seed, Siti Safiyah, but a split costed her the title. National Youth Bowler and Indonesia Open Youth Girls Masters Champion, Siti Syafiyah from Selangor took the game and the crown, 167-155.
Cheah, bowling with a blistered thumb due to non-stop competition in the World Team Cup at Holland and the Commonwealth Youth Games at Bendigo, had returned on December 6th and straight into competing in the Junior All-Stars this week.
The runner-up had ousted third-seed, Vivien Khoo and Sharon Koh in the first stepladder match with 190 against Vivien's 183 and Sharon's 158 for the match with the champion. |

However, Cheah just could not continue to bear the pain and went on to concede the match on a low score of 155 due to the injury. |
