12th April, Hong Kong: Triple Gold medalist, Zandra Aziela of Malaysia clinched her fourth Gold medal after defeating Indonesia's Ivana Hie 430-335 in the stepladder finals while Japan's Tomoyuki Sasaki upset Shaun Parlby of Australia for the Boy's crown 468-419.

Zandra Aziela, undoubtedly the star of the championship, was not going to easily give up the chance of capturing the prestigious title after all the hard work she put in the gruelling 16 games round-robin finals after finishing top-seed. The champion did not give the challenger, Ivana Hie of Indonesia to settle down at all once both the girls got into the second match of the stepladder finals.

Zandra ran away with a comfortable 247 against Ivana's 179 and then went on to win convincingly 183-156 in the second game to clinch her fourth Gold medal of the competition 430-335. Zandra prevented the Indonesian girl to emulate Sharon Limansantoso's triumph in the previous championship when she defeated Malaysia's Esther Cheah in the finals.

Second-seed Ivana Hie had earlier defeated third-seed Esther Cheah of Malaysia 264-212 in the first stepladder match before going down to Zandra. The Indonesian settled for the Silver while Esther added another medal for Malaysia with the Bronze.

Meanwhile, third-seed Tomoyuki Sasaki of Japan upset top-seed Shaun Parlby to win the Boy's Masters Gold medal after ousting the Aussie 468-419 over two games. Tomoyuki took the first game 215-187 and a trilling second game 253-232 for a well deserved win.

The champion had earlier knocked out second-seed Phantep Bhayakaporn of Thailand in another trilling match 259-235 before winning the second Gold medal for Japan on the final day of the championship.

After four days of intense competition at Mei Foo Super Fun Bowl in Kowloon, Malaysia retained the Peter Yap's Memorial Cup champions title with a haul 6 Gold, 6 Silver and 1 Bronze medal for a massive 50 points. The Malaysian girls contributing 4 of the 6 Gold medals while the boys took home 2.

Singapore clinched second spot with 1 Gold, 2 Silver, 2 Bronze medals and three 4th placings for 18 points while Australia finished third with 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 4 Bronze medals for 17 points.

The 7th Asian Schools Bowling Championship, which started on April 9th ended today with the stepladder grand finals. The championship attracted 10 countries participating which comprised of 55 boys, 41 girls and 39 team officials.

12th April, Hong Kong: Shaun Parlby of Australia took pole position in the Boy's Masters finals of the 7th Asian Schools Tenpin Bowling Championship after the second block of 8 games was completed at Mei Foo Super Fun Bowl this afternoon.

Somjed Kusonpithak of Thailand had his frist block lead of 46 pins reduced to 12 as soon as the boys started their second block round-robin finals this afternoon and lost the lead briefly to Australia's Shaun Parlby in the 10th game but only by 1 pin. Although Somjed regained the lead after the 11th game by 5 pins, he lost it again at the halfway mark to teammate Phantep Bhayakaporn and dropped to 4th.

Phantep had a 26 pins lead over the Australian Parlby and continued to lead after the 14th game by 24 pins. Tomoyuki Sasaki of Japan was also begining to home in onto the leaders at this stage to make it a three-way battle right to the final match.

But Parlby snatched the lead in the 15th game to take a slender lead of 19 pins with Indonesia's Marco Putra storming home to 2nd and Phantep

sliding down to 3rd spot. The Aussie then went on to claim pole position for the stepladder grand finals with a total of 3630 at the end of an exciting second block finals.

Phantep Bhayakaporn of Thailand did well to finished second despite winning only 3 out of the 8 games for a total of 3591 while Tomoyuki Sasaki found the pace too hot to maintain but made the spot in the stepladder finals in 3rd with 3578. First block leader Somjed Kusonpithak of Thailand fizzled out to 5th spot on 3550 behind Indonesia's Marco Putra who took 4th place with 3559.

All Events Gold medalist, Adrian Ang of Malaysia fought on galantly in an attempt to make the top 3 did not materialise as he manage to finished 7th with 3479 ahead of Doubles Gold medalist, Zaid Izlan in 8th with 3465 while Malaysia's remaining finalist, Eric Ang finished 11th with 3355.

The top 3 will battle it out in the stepladder finals to determine the champion, which will take place after the boys complete their second block of 8 games Masters finals.

12th April, Hong Kong: First block leader Zandra Aziela of Malaysia claimed top spot in the Girl's Masters finals of the 7th Asian Schools Tenpin Bowling Championship after a gruelling 16 games over two block at Mei Foo Super Fun Bowl this morning.

The triple Gold medalist, who led in yesterday's first block round-robin finals with 46 pins extended the lead to 105 pins by the halfway mark. But Zandra's lead was treathened when Indonesia's Ivana Hie reduced the gap to 30 pins when they reached the 13th game.

Zandra lost the lead breifly to Indonesia's Ivana when the latter shot a 276 in the 14th game to snatch the lead by 30 pins but Zandra came back strongly to regain the lead in the 15th game with 43 pins going into the 16th and last match.

The leader managed to hang on to the top spot after totalling 3783 to lead Ivana Hie by 26 pins to qualified for the stepladder grand finals as top seed.

Second position went to Ivana Hie who totalled 3757 for her effort. In the shadow of Zandra Aziela came Doubles Gold medalist, Esther Cheah of Malaysia with a total of 3619 to take up third place. Esther has now qualified for two consecutive stepladder finals after she won the Silver medal in the last championship in Malaysia.

Singles Silver medalist, Tay Hui Yiang finished in a distant 4th with a 3420 total to add 1 point for Singapore's medal points while Malaysia's Sharon Koh took 5th spot on 3366. Asian Schools debutants, Nur Syakirah Yeo (3263), Siti Safiyah Amirah (3185) and Yap Pui Yee (2988) completed the finals in 10th, 14th and 16th positions respectively.

The top 3 will battle it out in the stepladder finals to determine the champion, which will take place after the boys complete their second block of 8 games Masters finals.

11th April, Hong Kong: Triple Gold medalist, Zandra Aziela of Malaysia set a hot pace at Mei Foo Super Fun Bowl to lead the Girl's first Block Masters finals of the 7th Asian Schools Tenpin Bowling Championship at the end of the 8 games this afternoon.

Doubles Gold medalist, Esther Cheah of Malaysia took an early lead from the start of the Girl's Masters round-robin finals by 11 pins and stretched the lead to 60 pins by the time the field reached the 3rd game. Her lead was reduced to 11 pins on the 5th game when Zandra went on a hot streak to narrow the gap. The 17 year-old Malaysian National Squad member grabbed the lead on the 6th game and built up a 48 pins cushion over Esther, who bowled two consecutive average games in the 5th and 6th.

Zandra eventually wrapped up an good first block finals by topping the field of 16 finalists with 1901 and a comfortable lead of 46 pins. Zandra won all but lost the first 2 matches to teammates Esther Cheah and Sharon Koh. Indonesia's Ivana Hie stormed into second spot after two back-to-back high games of 268 and 279 in the 7th and 8th matches to total 1855.

Esther Cheah settled for third place with a total of 1825 while Australia's Sylvia Wilson did well to take 4th position with 1708. Singles Silver medalist Tay Hu Yiang of Singapore, who at one stage was third, dropped down to 6th position on a total of 1668 behind 5th-placed Kim Lao of the Phillipines on 1680.

Asian Schools debutant, Nur Syakirah Yeoh (1617) took 8th place, Sharon Koh (1600) and Siti Safiyah Amirah (1600) tied for 11th and Yap Pui Yee (1521) last in 16th position.

The girls will continue their second block Masters finals for another 8 games to decide the top 3 proceeding to the stepladder grand finals tomorrow (Monday 12th April). For detailed scores, click Girl's 1st Block Masters.

11th April, Hong Kong: Somjed Kusonpithak of Thailand topped the Boy's first Block Masters finals of the 7th Asian Schools Tenpin Bowling Championship at the end of 8 games at Mei Foo Super Fun Bowl this morning.

The start of the Boy's Masters round-robin finals saw Japan's Tomoyuki Sasaki taking the lead with a high game of 278 plus 10 points for the win giving him a lead of 39 pins from All Events Gold medalist Adrian Ang of Malaysia who scored 249 plus bonus. Tomoyuki continued to lead into the second game but soon found himself dropping to second after the third game.

Phantep Bhayakaporn of Thailand took over the lead briefly with a 29 pins margin in the third but only to loose it to Somjed K. from the fourth game onwards. Despite only winning four out of 8 games, Somjed was able to top the field of 16 finalists with a total of 1910 and a scratch score of 1870 thanks to the back-to-back high games of 279 in the 3rd and 4th game.

Shaun Parlby of Australia did well to stay with the leader, 46 pins behind Somjed on 1864 while early leader, Tomoyuki Sasaki of Japan finished third with 1842. Fourth place went to Indonesia's Marco Putra just 2 pins away on a total of 1840.

Doubles Gold medalist, Zaid Izlan is still in the hunt for a stepladder spot in fifth with 1826. All Events Gold medalist, Adrian Ang who got off to a good start in the beginning fizzled out to 11th position with 1720 while Eric Ang finished 12th with 1667 and Singles Gold medalist Ray Chaung Duan Rui finishing a dismal 16th with 1533.

The girls will start off their first block Masters Finals after lane maintenance. Both the divisions will continue their second block for another 8 games to decide the top 3 proceeding to the stepladder grand finals tomorrow (Monday 12th April). For detailed scores, click Boy's 1st Block Masters.
