Third place finish for Malaysian

2nd August, Manila: Daniel Lim of Malaysia ended the 12th PBAP Bevida-Storm International Classic finishing third after losing the second stepladder match as Hong Kong's Wu Siu Hong emerged as champion on Sunday.

Daniel Lim, who was seeded second after posting 1844 in the earlier 8-game semifinals to advance into the stepladder finals, lost to No. 3 seed, Chester King 206-220 in the second stepladder match.

King had tied with Thailand's Phoemphun Yakasem on 220 but won the 9th and 10th frame tie breaker 40-27 to advance to the finals. Despite beating topseed, Wu Siu Hong of Hong Kong, 256-171 in the first game, the Filipino lost the decider, 236-279.

World Games 2009 Mixed Doubles bronze medalist, Zatil Iman, who made the stepladder finals in sixth position, lost the first match Phoemphun Yakasem, 206-223 in which fifth-seed, Remy Ong also crashed out with 190.

Syafiq Ridhwan and Kang Bo Long ended up 10th and 11th in the semifinals with 1714 and 1710 while Fatin Syazliana, who took Aaron Kong place due to injury, took 15th spot with 1700. Muhd Nur Aiman and Zulmazran Zulkifli finished 18th and 20th positions.

Wu Siu Hong won 150,000 peso (RM11,000) as champion with Chester King settling for 80,000 peso (RM5,800) and Daniel Lim taking home 40,000 peso (RM2,930). Detailed scores: Open Division Stepladder and Open Division Semifinals.

Malaysian youth captures youth title

1st August, Manila: Malaysian national youth, Siti Syazwani captured the 12th PBAP Bevida-Storm International Classic youth title at Paeng's Midtown Bowl on Saturday.

Siti Syazwani totaled 1774 and an impressive 216.75 scratch average to win her first international crown. Siti Syazwani emerged as the youth champion thanks to an 8-pin handicap in the 8-game finals.

ABF Tour Bahrain leg champion, Eric Tseng settled second with 1758 followed by another Asian Youth Games Singles gold medalist, Michael Mak of Hong Kong third with 1722.

Malaysia's Khoo Beng Khai did well to tie in fifth position with Hong Kong's Jason Sin on 1698 while top qualifier, Aris Ardilla did not display the form in the earlier rounds to end up in 11th with 1610.

Siti Syazwani pocketed 20,000 peso (RM1,500) for her effort while Eric Tseng and Michael Mak took home 10,000 and 8,000 peso respectively. Detailed scores: Youth Division Finals.

Seven Malaysians make semifinals

31st July, Manila: Seven out of 10 Malaysian national keglers made the semifinals of the 12th PBAP Bevida-Storm International Classic with Aaron Kong leading the charge.

Aaron Kong, who was ninth overall after the second block, topped Squad C en-route to moving up two notches to seventh overall on a 24-game total of 5022. The 24-year-old Asian Championship Team gold medalist rolled 1725 in the third block.

Asia Ranked No.1, Hussain Al-Suwaidi of UAE topped the field with 5153 after posting 1659 inn his third block. Overnight leader, Chester King of the Philippines settled for second with 5112.

Singapore's spinner, Ong She-Na took up third spot with 5066 after a superb third block and a handicap of 8 pins per game ahead of Filipino Benshir Layoso fourth with 5065.

2009 Bahrain Open champion, Remy Ong of Singapore posted a record-breaking 8-game series of 1867 to haul himself up from 23rd position to fifth with a total of 5043. Day 1 leader, Surasak Manuwong of Thailand finished sixth with 5026 ahead of Aaron in seventh.


The six Malaysians to join Aaron in the semifinals were Daniel Lim (10th-4951), Zatil Iman (11th-4943), Zulmazran Zulkifli (14th-4867), Syafiq Ridhwan and Kang Bo Long (tie 16th-4861) and Muhd Nur Aiman (20th-4807).

Fatin Syazliana missed the Top 24 cut by just 6 pins finishing 25th with 4736 as two other Malaysians, Adrian Ang and Alex Liew also failed to advance after ending up in 28th and 30th positions.

Meanwhile, Aris Ardilla of Malaysia ended the third block in pole position with a total of 4825 followed by Filipino, Mades Arles in second with 4824 and ABF Tour Bahrain champion, Eric Tseng third with 4818.

ahead of Khoo Beng Khai of Malaysia fifth on 4740. Siti Syazwani finished eighth with 4602.

The top 24 in the Classified division and top 24 in the Open division advanced to the semifinals on August 1 and 2 for another 8 games scratch. The top 6 will proceed to the stepladder finals. Detailed scores: Open Division 3rd Block and Youth Division 3rd Block.

Good progress by Malaysians

30th July, Manila: Good progress is being made by Malaysians on the second day of the 12th PBAP Bevida-Storm International Classic with Daniel Lim and Aaron Kong finishing one-two in Squad C.

Daniel Lim, who topped Squad C in the opening block yesterday and finished third overall, continued to to be the best Malaysian performer after rolling 1637 in the second block today for an aggregate 16-game total of 3370.

Aaron Kong did well to improved sixth to second in the same squad as Daniel with 1635 for a total of 3297. World Games 2009 Mixed Doubles bronze medalist, Zatil Iman finished fourth with 1666 on a total of 3270.

Daniel ended up lower in sixth position overall as Chester King of the Philippines took over the lead after the second block with 3513. Overnight leader, Surasak Manuwong settled for second with 3507.

Aaron improved from 11th to ninth overall while Zatil made the biggest improvement from 35th to 12th position. Zulmazran Zulkifli totaled 3257 to drop from seventh to 15th followed by Syafiq Ridhwan, who jumped from 29th to 16th on 3254.


Kang Bo Long dropped from 10th to 17th on 3233 with Muhd Nur Aiman improving up from 27th to 18th on a total of 3216. Southpaw, Alex Liew hauled himself up from a disasterous 48th to 20th with 3186.

Two other Malaysians who did not do so well were Fatin Syazliana, dropping from 15th to 21st while World Games two bronze medalist, Adrian Ang fell from 21st to 34th position.

In the youth division, Aris Ardilla improved to third with 3219 as Hong Kong's Rickle Kam continued to lead the field with 3278 after the second block. Khoo Beng Khai moved up to fifth with 3146 while Siti Syazwani dropped to sixth with 3125.

The players will complete their third and final qualifying block tomorrow. The top 24 in the Classified division and top 24 in the Open division will advance to the semifinals on August 1 and 2 for another 8 games scratch. Detailed scores: Open Division 2nd Block and Youth Division 2nd Block.

Malaysian tops third squad

29th July, Manila: Daniel Lim led Malaysia's challenge at the 12th PBAP Bevida-Storm International Classic as he led Squad C of the first block and finished third overall on Wednesday.

Daniel Lim got off to a great start with back-to-back 221 and continued to roll 209, 193, 244, 202, 189 and 254 for a total of 1733. Hong Kong's Wu Siu Hong finished second to Daniel with 1709 and Rickle Kam third with 1700.

Two-time Malaysian Open champion, Zulmazran Zulkifli gave a good account of himself finishing fourth to Daniel with 1679. Other Malaysians in the same squad was Kang Bo Long (5th-1664), Aaron Kong (6th-1662), Fatin Syazliana (7th-1632) and Adrian Ang (9th-1617).

Others who finished outside the top 10 were Muhd Nur Aiman (13th-1587), Syafiq Ridhwan (14th-1573), Zatil Iman (17th-1540) and Alex Liew (25th-1364).

Daniel ended up third overall when the three squads were combined. Squad B leader, Surasak Manuwong and Phoemphun Yakasem gave Thailand a one-two finish with 1777 and 1758.


Meanwhile, national youth Siti Syazwani of Malaysia, tied top spot with Singapore Open Youth champion, Rickle Kam of Hong Kong on 1700. Khoo Beng Khai finished seventh with 1570 followed by Aris Ardilla ninth with 1552.

The players will resume with the second block tomorrow, divided into three squads with Squad B at 9.00am followed by Squad C in the afternoon and Squad A in the evening. The third block will be held on Friday, July 31.

The top 24 at the end of the three preliminary qualifying blocks will advance to the semifinals for another 8 games from scratch. The top 6 will make the cut for the stepladder finals on Sunday, August 2. Detailed scores: Open Division 1st Block and Youth Division 1st Block.
