Malaysians were top performers

22nd April, Canton, Michigan: Malaysian women were fiery in the USBC WOmen's Championships as Sharon Koh and Zandra Aziela making their presence felt with performances in their Doubles and Singles events.

The pair of Sharon Koh and Zandra Aziela attracted the attention of the capacity crowd with an inspiring display of good bowling. Southpaw, Sharon Koh won the admiration of the local folks as she reeled 195, 251 and 231 for a remarkable 677 series.

Petite, Zandra supplemented with lines of 215, 210 and 197 for a series of 622 total. Their combined total of 1299 took our pair to the top of the table standing as the new leader.

The pair of Choy Poh Lai and Siti Safiyah Amirah gave a par performance with an aggregate of 1239 total to position themselves in second place. Poh Lai bowled 175, 192 and 228 for a 594 series while Siti Safiyah contributed 207, 214 and 224 for a 645 series.

In the Singles event, Sharon Koh was equally awesome with her immaculate performance much to the delights of the home players and fans. Reeling a minimum of 5 consecutive strikes per game, Sharon had the local crowd cheering for her as she blazed the lanes with 247, 258 and 223 for a superb 728 series and earned the top spot, much ahead of her nearest rival.

With strong vocal support from the crowd, Siti Safiyah too responded magnificently to shoot strike after strike in her effort to achieve the magical 300 game in her second game of the Singles event. Done with 194 in her first game, Siti Safiyah raced to 10 consecutive strikes. She had the entire 60 lanes' centre to herself as she stepped on the lane approach. Much to the dismay of herself, the ball went straight and 3 pins stood.

Siti picked up 2 pins and was applauded with her 286 game. The 17-year-old student completed her third game on 192 for a 672 series. Later, Siti was mobbed and congratulated by the local crowd and was interviewed by the USBC media.

Zandra Aziela continued her progression with lines of 204, 200 and 253 for a 657 series while Choy Poh Lai registered 200, 195 and 179 for a 574 series. All four bowlers will be in Detroit a bit longer to compete in the USBC Queens, which begins Saturday at Super Bowl.

Malaysian women returns to USBC

20th April, Canton, Michigan: Malaysia women returned to the USBC Women's Championship led by two-time National champion, Sharon Koh and joined by Zandra Aziela, Choy Poh Lai and debutant, Siti Safiyah Amirah.

After a long and tiring flight journey that took the team through Stockholm, Sweden and Newark, New Jersey, Team Malaysia finally landed safely in Detroit Metro Airport on Tuesday.

Taking a bus shuttle from the airport, they arrived 30 minutes later and checked into the Official hotel, Hyatt Regency Dearborn. The team then took their bowling equipment to the Super Bowl, Canton, the competition venue which is situated some 15 miles from our hotel.

The Malaysian women watched local bowlers in action for a short while and later returned to the hotel and retired for the day. Practically all the shops were closed for business by 6.00 pm today being their Sunday.

The Women would commence bowling at 3.00 pm on Monday for the Team event, followed by the Singles and Doubles the following Tuesday morning at 7:30am.
