Malaysian Youth on Show

19th September, Kuala Lumpur
: The 1st Milo Young Champion and International Star Competition, was staged at the Sunway Pyramid Megalanes on Friday evening, immediately after the Masters' event of the WTBA World Championships.

The title may be quite a mouthful but the event was awe-inspiring as 30 children under the age of 12 from all parts of the country were matched with the internationals from the Championships.

"Originally we planned to have 24 local children," explained MTBC general secretary Sidney Tung, "but when we published a press release about the event I received literally hundreds of calls from across the country. So we decided to hold a qualifying tournament and the best 24 players after six games were invited to the main tournament. Our sponsors, Milo and the National Sports Council, invited a further six players, so we had an ideal field of 30 for the Championship."

The junior and senior pairings brought both interesting scores and very entertaining bowling. The top five combined scores were awarded prizes and the leading five juniors also received gifts. George Lambert and Sharifah Marissa emerged the champion, Zulmazran Zulkifli and Yap Eu Win came in second, Thailand's Sithiphol and Jonathan Chan finished third.
